The Top Baby Names of 2020 Seem Heavily Inspired by Chrissy Teigen and…‘Westworld’?

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the doozy of a year that is 2020. But the uncommon baby names beg to differ. Baby name website Nameberry crunched its numbers and came up with the most popular baby names of 2020 (so far).

It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise, but these monikers are very different from 2019’s list. At this time last year, Cora held the no. 8 spot for girls, and moved up to no. 6 by the end of 2019. According to Nameberry's CEO Pamela Redmond, “We projected Cora would rank among the top girls' names in the US for years to come, but Cora’s popularity is waning because it’s too close to coronavirus.” Dang it, coronavirus.

Instead, Nameberry lists Luna as the most popular name for girls, which represents the Roman goddess of the moon and happens to be the name of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's daughter. Coincidence? We think not. And coming in first for the boys is Milo, which is uncannily similar to Teigen and Legend’s son, Miles. Trendsetters, we tell you.

Other possible inspirations for this year’s lists include season three of HBO’s Westworld (Maeve), Disney’s classic animated film Sleeping Beauty (Aurora), the end of beloved comedy Schitt’s Creek (Levi—too far of a stretch?) and the vampire romance novel Twilight (Jasper—we kid, lolz). Here, the top ten names for boys and girls of 2020, thus far.
