It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Though Dickens wasn’t referring to the American rite of passage that is a Disney family vacation, the sentiment still reigns true. A trip to Walt Disney World can be a magical experience, bursting at the seams with bullish expectations for Hallmark family moments and once-in-a-lifetime fun…that is, until the baby has a blowout, your toddler backhands Mickey and your husband forgets to pack the emergency fruit snacks (rookie mistake).

Luckily, Disney knows a thing or two about family travel, including the stressors that inevitably come along with it. To help make your vacation a little less trying and a lot more fun, I’m letting you in on the Disney mom’s best-kept secret. Here are four baby and toddler perks you didn’t know existed, from how to snag a free meal to your in-park respite.

I’ve Been to Disney World Over a Dozen Times, Here Are 3 Things I Never Miss (and 3 I’d Never Do Again)

1. Baby Care Centers

One major baby perk I wish I knew about sooner? All four Disney theme parks offer complimentary baby care centers, complete with well-maintained changing stations, private nursing rooms and so much more. Accessible during regular park hours, Disney cast members also stock each care facility with family essentials available for purchase, like baby food, juice, diapers, wipes, sunscreen, over-the-counter medicine, clothing and even formula. Additional highlights include quiet rooms with comfortable rocking chairs (so you can sneak in a quick nap without having to leave the park), a feeding area with high chairs, seating and a TV, a kitchenette with a microwave and sink, plus private restrooms. The baby care centers are also where any lost children will be escorted and supervised until they can be reunited with their parents or guardians. Prepping for a trip? Find the location of each baby care center here—and then map out which kid-friendly rides are nearby.

2. Stroller Rentals

Don’t feel like lugging your not-so-travel-friendly travel stroller to and from the parks? No problem. Disney offers both single and double-stroller rentals for daily or multi-day use in all four theme parks and at Disney Springs (see specific locations here). The only caveat? Strollers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so depending on crowd level and when you plan on entering the park, you may get lucky (or be S.O.L.). The good news, however, is that you can purchase a multi-day rental after reserving your first park stroller, so feel free to sleep in the next day or enjoy a morning at the hotel pool. Just remember to keep your multi-day receipt close by, since you’ll need it as proof of purchase for the remainder of your trip.

Curious about pricing? Here’s what you can expect:

Single Stroller (recommended for children 50 pounds or less)

  • Daily Rental: $15
  • Multi-Day Rental: $13/day

Double Stroller (recommended for children 100 pounds or less)

  • Daily Rental: $31
  • Multi-Day Rental: $27/day

If you’re hoping to rent a stroller for use outside of the parks (say at your hotel or when traveling between other Disney properties), Disney has teamed up with ScooterBug: a private mobility rental company that, in addition to strollers, also offers wheelchairs and electronic conveyance vehicles that—for convenience and ease—can be booked ahead of time. This Disney Featured Provider will also handle stroller pickup and delivery at your Disney resort hotel, making travel days even easier for families vacationing with young kids.

3. Kids Under 3 Eat Free (At Some Restaurants)

If you’re traveling with littles—aka the under three crowd—do yourself a favor and book a meal or two at one of Disney’s many all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurants. The adults and older kids can indulge in endless family-style courses without having to worry about whether or not the toddler will join in on the fun or go on an inevitable hunger strike. Some of my favorite Disney restaurants where kids under three eat free include Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (great for Toy Story fans), ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (with surprise breakfast-only appearances by Lilo and Stitch) as well as Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort (two classics the whole family will enjoy). And remember—though this one’s hard to forget—kids under the age of three are also granted free admission to all Walt Disney World theme parks.

4. Complimentary Cribs and Playpens

In my (completely biased) opinion, Disney truly is the ultimate family vacation. And now, even your infant can enjoy the little luxuries that come along with staying on property. If you and your family are booked at a Disney resort hotel, complimentary cribs and playpens are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can request a crib either upon arrival or when booking your reservation online, but insiders say the earlier you put in the request, the more likely you are to nab one. Per planDisney (an online resource that provides helpful tips and tricks for planning a Disney vacation), “During the checkout process … click ‘change’ next to ‘room and amenity requests’ under the Guest Information section on the page. All you have to do to request a crib or playpen for your room is check the box next to ‘crib.’” A totally free amenity that will give you and your little one a better night’s sleep, this is one baby perk you do not want to miss.
