As any parent knows, in the early days, the volume of gear is overwhelming and there’s no shortage of places you need to be: pediatrician appointments, stroller walks, school runs. My number one goal became lightness. The fewer things I could carry, the better.
That’s where the City Mouse bag comes in handy. While my mom (who visited New York City right when my newborn was born) held baby, I thoughtfully packed it with the most critical needs: a few diapers, A&D and Aquaphor, a pack of Water Wipes. The changing pad is thin and lightweight and already included. I added a change of clothing (poopsplosions happen), a couple of pacifiers and my wallet. There was still room for a lip balm, phone and Airpods. I was immediately impressed.
One might argue it’s just a crossbody bag. But it’s a crossbody bag that’s optimized to be a diaper bag, which gives you the best of both worlds. Beyond the changing pad, there are strategically placed interior pockets for improved organization. (There’s a mesh pocket for diapers, credit card slots and a back zipper pocket.)
That’s probably one of the things I loved the most—the way this bag helped me notice at a glance what I might have forgotten while requiring me to stick to the essentials. (Now that my son is six months, I’m able to wedge in a toy too.)
