People, We have Seen ‘Frozen 2’ and Now We *Finally* Know What Happened to Elsa’s and Anna’s Parents

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

At the premiere of Frozen 2, we laughed (oh, Olaf!), we cried (sisterly feels!) and we finally found out more about what happened to Elsa’s (voiced by Idina Menzel) and Anna’s (voiced by Kristen Bell) parents, who had previously been lost at sea.

As the film opens, three years after the events of the first film, Elsa starts to hear a strange sound from the north calling her. Then something happens in her kingdom, Arendelle, that causes complete and utter chaos. Together with her sister Anna, Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff), Sven the reindeer (voiced by the Rock) and Olaf the snowman (voiced by Josh Gad), the band endeavors to find the origin of the voices that are calling to Elsa, which seem to be coming from the direction of the Enchanted Forest. The girls remember the place from a story their father told them.

In the ensuing adventure, Anna and Elsa find out a lot of family secrets—like, where Elsa's powers come from, and most poignantly of all, exactly what their parents were doing on the high seas when they were overtaken by the waves.

Sure, it's annoying that we can't tell you exactly how all these pivotal plot points go down, but we can definitely say the reveal is worth the cost of a trip to the movies. At the very least, now we know these aren’t the same parents as Tarzan’s (yep, that was a theory).

Frozen 2 hits theaters on November 22.
