It’s been three months since Netflix blessed us with more episodes of Virgin River. The streaming service hasn’t released many details about season seven, but that didn’t stop showrunner Patrick Sean Smith from teasing what’s to come in the next installment.
‘Virgin River’ Showrunner Teases What’s to Come in Season 7: ‘There’s a Lot More to Go’
Attention, 'Virgin River' fans!

The producer recently sat down for an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. Not only did Smith share never-before-heard details about the new episodes, but he also revealed that Virgin River isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
“There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” Smith said. “I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting.”
The showrunner confirmed that the new episodes will “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”
Smith also reassured fans that they don’t have to worry about Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) breaking up. However, the characters will experience other marital obstacles.
“I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up,” he explained. “It forces you to dig a little bit deeper into, well, what other issues can they have in their relationship? Especially when you want to keep it through the romance lens. I think Alex and Martin play all of those [moments so well], it’s just resting on emotional stakes as opposed to ‘will they, won’t they.’”

Season seven will feature a few newcomers, including Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Cody Kearsley (Riverdale). Still, Smith admitted that he wants to expand on existing relationships, including Hope (Annette O’Toole) and Doc (Tim Matheson).
“Especially with Hope and Doc, getting to tell love stories between two people at that age is something that television never does,” Smith added. “Or if they do, it’s for comic relief or something. So the more that we get to grow those characters and dig into them, it just feels special. It feels like nothing else anybody is doing on television.”
The Virgin River withdrawal is real.
