Easter movies on Netflix A Week Away
RICHARD PETERSON/NETFLIX

So, you’ve completed all the spring-themed activities, finished your Easter egg hunt and devoured the best Easter dinner. Now, it’s time to upgrade your festive Sunday by binge-watching the best Easter movies on Netflix.

Perhaps you're craving a light-hearted film the entire family will love, like Peter Rabbit. (Shoutout to the brilliant James Corden.) Or maybe you're in the mood to dance and could use an Easter-themed musical like Journey to Bethlehem. (I don't care what anyone says—"Mary's Getting Married" is still a banger.) Either way, the streaming platform offers a great selection of films, from kid-friendly Easter picks that will have kids rolling on the floor with laughter to more mature titles that point to the religious significance of the holiday.

Now, it's worth noting that not every single option here is overtly about Easter. Still they all have inspirational themes and relevant topics that connect to the holiday's origins, whether it be about faith, church culture or biblical events. Keep reading for 16 Easter movies on Netflix the whole family can enjoy.

1. Journey to Bethlehem (2023)

  • Cast: Brett Dalton, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Neil Flynn
  • Rating: PG

Among all the Easter movies on Netflix, this one may be my personal favorite. The timeless story of the birth of Jesus is retold in this fun musical, which details the challenges of young Mary during her pregnancy and King Herod's efforts to kill the young messiah. Besides the catchy tunes and impressive choreography, this film tackles themes like greed, perseverance and the importance of having faith. (And yes, I confess, I revisit this soundtrack year-round.)

2. A Week Away (2021)

  • Cast: Bailee Madison, Kevin Quinn, David Koechner
  • Rating: TV-PG

This charming teen musical film tells the story of Will, a troubled high schooler who gets sent to a Christian summer camp after breaking the law. While there, he falls in love with another camper named Avery and gains a sense of belonging for the first time. While not overtly about Easter, the film does touch on holiday themes like new beginnings and faith, plus includes modern renditions of classic Christian songs by Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, and Steven Curtis Chapman.

3. Watership Down (2018)

  • Cast: James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, John Boyega, Ben Kingsley
  • Rating: PG

Based on Richard Adams's 1972 novel of the same name, the fantasy miniseries tells the story of a colony of rabbits who embark on a risky journey to find a new home. It boasts an A-list voice cast, a stellar soundtrack and gorgeous computer animation. So, while it's not technically a movie, I would still highly recommend.

4. Come Sunday (2018)

  • Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jason Segel, Condola Rashad, Lakeith Stanfield
  • Rating: TV-14

Chiwetel Ejiofor shines as real-life evangelist Carlton Pearson, who gets ostracized by the church community after challenging a core doctrine and preaching that Hell doesn’t exist. Come Sunday deftly explores important themes like morality, faith and spirituality. However, the tone is emotional and intense, so it might not be the best choice if you want to entertain younger kids.

5. Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness (2022)

  • Cast: Jordan Tartakow, Joey Lotsko, Laila Berzins
  • Rating: TV-Y7

Based on Chris Grine's graphic novel, Chickenhare, the comedy revolves around a brave half-chicken, half-hare who embarks on a mission to find a valuable artifact, with the help of his two close friends. Everyone in the family will appreciate the appealing animation and likable characters. (Psst, the movie's sequel, Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog, has already been confirmed and is set to release at some point in 2025.)

6. Duck Duck Goose (2018)

  • Cast: Jim Gaffigan, Zendaya, Carl Reiner
  • Rating: PG

As Peng, a free-spirited swan goose, is migrating to China with his flock, he wakes up one day to find that he’s been abandoned. Things start to look up when he meets and befriends two lost ducklings named Chi and Chao. But they soon come to realize that Peng had an ulterior motive from the beginning. Fun fact: This is an international co-production between the U.S., China and the U.K.

7. Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars (2022)

  • Cast: Jack Angel, Féodor Atkine, Yann Bean
  • Rating: TV-Y

Inspired by the popular game franchise, this movie follows two scientists who assemble a team of Rabbids—a species of rabbit-like creatures—to save Mars from an evil tech giant. It’s fun and super silly, but it also touches on topics of math and science, so it’ll be a special treat for kids who are into STEM.

8. A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019)

  • Cast: Justin Fletcher, John Sparkes, Amalia Vitale
  • Rating: G

In this fun sci-fi comedy, Shaun the Sheep and the rest of the flock meet an adorable alien with superpowers. When it lands near Mossy Bottom Farm, the sheep work together to help the alien return home—but can they do so before getting caught by the Ministry for Alien Detection? The movie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature, as well as a BAFTA nod for Best Animated Film.

9. The Star (2017)

  • Cast: Steven Yeun, Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Keegan-Michael Key
  • Rating: PG

Inspired by the nativity story, The Star revolves around a brave donkey who, with an unlikely group of animal friends, follow a bright star and become a part of the very first Christmas, when Jesus is born. The movie has a stellar soundtrack, including Mariah Carey's Golden Globe-nominated "The Star," and there are so quite a few familiar stars in the cast. While the movie received mixed reviews from critics, it was a box office success, making $63 million.

10. The Forge (2024)

  • Cast: Cameron Arnett, Priscilla Shirer, Aspen Kennedy, Karen Abercrombie
  • Rating: TV-14

Okay, so it's not exactly an Easter movie, but it does revolve around a community of guys who are deeply inspired by the life and legacy of Jesus. The faith-based film mainly centers on Isaiah Wright, a 19-year-old whose outlook and lifestyle change radically after he develops a bond with a wise, Christian CEO. The movie made an impressive $40 million against a $5 million budget and garnered praise from most critics.

11. Peter Rabbit (2018)

  • Cast: James Corden, Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Sam Neill
  • Rating: PG

Based on Beatrix Potter's iconic 1902 novel (and easily one of the best Easter movies on Netflix), The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the movie follows Peter, a clever rabbit who enjoys spending time in Mr. McGregor's garden. Unfortunately, a new owner arrives and hatches a plan to get rid of him and his family. But Peter doesn't intend to give up that easily. Part live-action, part CGI movie, Peter Rabbit is a fun thrill ride that all ages can enjoy.

12. Mary (2024)

  • Cast: Noa Cohen, Ido Tako, Ori Pfeffer, Hilla Vidor
  • Rating: TV-14

It may not have the highest Rotten Tomatoes score, but I will say, this fictionalized retelling of the story of Mary—the mother of Jesus—and the birth of Jesus is fascinating. Anyone who has an interest in the backstories of famous Christian figures will take a liking to the film, which depicts Mary as a young girl and chronicles her life before she gives birth. Both Cohen and Hopkins also deliver strong performances.

13. The Shack (2017)

  • Cast: Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Graham Greene, Radha Mitchell
  • Rating: PG

Based on William P. Young's book of the same name, The Shack follows Mack, a troubled father who's invited to visit a mysterious, isolated shack in the woods after going through a terrible tragedy. When he arrives, he has a lifechanging, spiritual encounter. Despite the film's negative reviews, it performed at the box office, making nearly $97 million.

14. Green Eggs and Ham: The Second Serving (2019)

  • Cast: Michael Douglas, Adam DeVine, Ilana Glazer, Diane Keaton
  • Rating: G

We're sneaking in another TV show that's both entertaining and kid-friendly. Based on Dr. Seuss's popular children's book, the series follows the misadventures of Sam, Guy and E.B. as they head to East Flubria to find Sam's biological mom. Although it doesn't revolve around Easter, the eggs-and-ham theme is definitely in line with the holiday's culinary traditions.

15. Journey to Grace (2008)

  • Cast: Frank Rautenbach, Sarah Thompson
  • Rating: PG

Also known as Hansie: A True Story, the biopic chronicles the life of Hansie Cronje, a South African international cricketer who struggles to get a fresh start after confessing to a shocking scandal. While the film doesn't exactly give Easter vibes, it does focus on Cronje's path to redemption and highlight the theme of hope—both of which are often emphasized when it comes to the true meaning of Easter.

16. The Wait (2021)

  • Cast: Nse Ikpe Etim, Deyemi Okanlawon, Jimmy Odukoya
  • Rating: PG

This Nigerian drama may also feel like a stretch, but it fits in the sense that it revolves around a doctor who helps her ill patients restore their faith in God. The movie is based on Yewande Zaccheaus's book, God's Waiting Room, and it tackles themes like mortality, illness and infertility.
