Kate Middleton regularly pays tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing special pieces from her jewelry collection. However, the royal’s latest nod somewhat doubled as a wardrobe malfunction.
Over the weekend, the Princess of Wales, 43, and her husband, Prince William, attended a service celebrating Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey. I was so distracted by Princess Catherine’s body language that I almost missed her near-wardrobe malfunction.
The Princess of Wales recycled her red coatdress by Catherine Walker, which she first donned back in December 2021. She accessorized with diamond and pearl earrings that previously belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. (FYI, the late royal wore the earrings on multiple occasions, including when she stepped out wearing her now-iconic revenge dress.)
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there was a diamond missing from one of the earrings.
The accessory features two drop-style diamond studs that are hovering over a teardrop-shaped pearl that’s encased in four smaller diamonds. If you look closely, you’ll notice that one of the smaller diamonds is missing from the left side.
This “wardrobe malfunction” was barely noticeable, but I can't help but worry about the status of the earrings. Princess Catherine’s jewelry collection is quite expansive, especially since she inherited multiple pieces from Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth. If the Princess of Wales (or someone on her team) knew about the missing gem, she likely would have opted for another pair of earrings to minimize the risk of losing another stone.
The royal jewelers have some repairs in their future.
