Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson fully supports Meghan Markle’s new venture into the publishing world.

The 61-year-old royal recently sat down for an interview with The Daily Mail, where she discussed Markle’s announcement that her first children’s book, The Bench, is hitting shelves on June 8. Ferguson had nothing but good things to say, revealing that “to sit down and work hard to write a book, in any genre, should be supported and respected.”

She continued, “To encourage literacy in general, not just children’s books, is a love of mine and to encourage more women to delve into their creative selves and get a book out is very well done.”

We’re not totally surprised that Ferguson supports Markle’s new gig. Not only does she regularly narrate children’s stories on YouTube, but she’s also an accomplished author herself. Although she’s written 74 (!) books over the years, Ferguson revealed that she’s most excited for her first historical fiction novel, Her Heart for a Compass, which she co-wrote with Marguerita Kaye. The book (hitting shelves on August 3) is a dramatized account of the life of her great-great-aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott.

“I have written 74 books over 30 years but this one is special as it was written during the pandemic and is my first ever historical novel,” she told the publication. “Something I have been waiting to write for 15 years.”

Maybe Ferguson will consider co-writing a children’s book with Markle in the future? Hey, we can dream.
