It was just a couple of weeks ago when Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, stepped out for a star-studded gala in Sweden wearing a stunning cape dress by Safiyaa, $2,045. Well, this week Princess Amalia of the Netherlands seemingly took her cue from Fergie and donned the exact same gown—in the same rich green color, too—and now we’re once again thinking non-stop about the versatility of the style.

Seriously, though—cape dresses are chic and pretty show-stopping for fall, whether you have a gala to attend or simply want to look extra elegant for an office happy hour or Saturday dinner out. In Princess Amalia’s case, she sported the look for Prinsjesdag, which marks the annual opening of Parliament in the Netherlands. For Fergie, she wore the ‘Sarita’ style in September for the honorary conservation award ceremony hosted by the Perfect World Foundation. Both royals looked elegant and, well, regal. But they also demonstrated the ease of the silhouette, not just for its arm-covering attributes, but for its jewel-toned hue, which is universally flattering.
