It's been a pretty exciting week for tennis player Emma Raducanu.
The 18-year-old Brit was just crowned the US Open champion, becoming the youngest female Grand Slam champion since 17-year-old Maria Sharapova won the same title at Wimbledon in 2004. According to ESPN, Raducanu is also “the first woman to win the US Open title without dropping a set since Serena Williams in 2014.” The last British woman to win a Grand Slam singles trophy was Virginia Wade all the way back in 1977.
While Raducanu is smashing records, she's also getting some royal praise, including a personal message of congratulations from the queen herself. The note was shared to the royal family Instagram account, where Queen Elizabeth II said, “I send my congratulations to you on your success in winning the United States Open Tennis Championships. It is a remarkable achievement at such a young age, and is testament to your hard work and dedication.”
