Fans of The Crown are anxiously awaiting the sixth and final season of the historical drama, which will chart Queen Elizabeth II's reign into the 21st century (but will not go all the way to her death in 2022). And while the final act will include notable moments from royal family history, like Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first encounters, it will also include some tragic events, including the death of Princess Diana. However, the producers have promised that the event will be handled with care.

At the Edinburgh TV Festival, executive producer Suzanne Mackie told the audience: “The show might be big and noisy, but we're not...We're thoughtful people and we're sensitive people,” as reported by the BBC.

Mackie added, “There was a very, very careful, long, long, long conversation about how we do it—and I hope, you know, the audience will judge it in the end, but I think it's been delicately, thoughtfully recreated.”

Elizabeth Debicki, who portrayed the late Princess of Wales in season five of the show (a performance which earned her an Emmy nom for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series), will reprise the role for season six.

According to Mackie, there was an equal sensitivity brought to the scene by Debicki. “She was so thoughtful, considerate and loved Diana,” the executive producer said. “So there was a huge amount of respect from us all. I hope that's evident when you see it.”

Since the beginning of its run in 2016, The Crown has earned over 60 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, as well as glowing reviews from critics (although, some viewers have criticized the show for historical inaccuracies).

We will be anxiously awaiting the final episodes of The Crown, which are scheduled to premiere sometime this fall.
