What’s Next for Lizzie in ‘Virgin River’ Now That Ricky Is Leaving? We’ve Got a Theory

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

There are several theories floating around about the fate of multiple Virgin River characters. However, there’s only one person’s future that we’re worried about: Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale).

We first meet the character in season two when she moves to Virgin River under the guardianship of Aunt Connie (Nicola Cavendish) after being too much trouble for her parents. However, there’s a chance Lizzie could leave the show in the upcoming installment. It all comes down to the season three finale, when Lizzie is blindsided by the news that Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey) is enlisting in the Marines.

The bombshell prompted fans to question Lizzie’s future on the show. After scouring the internet for theories, we came across two viable hypotheses: 1. Lizzie could stay in Virgin River and, therefore, continue to develop her story line. Or 2. she could leave the show and return to her hometown.

If we had to predict, we think she’ll stick around despite Ricky’s absence. Although she had a life prior to moving to Virgin River, we don’t think she’s going anywhere anytime soon. The writers spent a decent amount of time introducing her story line in season two, and if there’s anything we learned from past seasons, it’s that every character has a purpose. And we’re not convinced that she’s served hers quite yet.

If Lizzie does stick around, it could mean many things. Will she wait until Ricky returns from the Marines? Or will she strike up a romance with a different Virgin River resident, like Brady (Ben Hollingsworth)?

Although we don’t have an answer, Gurnsey recently revealed that he’s hopeful about Ricky’s future with Lizzie. “I do hope they get back together, but on mutual terms where she has forgiven him and he has learned his lesson—not out of shame or guilt, but out of a genuine understanding of her feelings,” he told TV Line.

Virgin River season four can’t come soon enough.
