There are only two types of people during January: Those who have their lives together—doing dry January and exercising regularly—and those who are still dealing with a holiday hangover (raises hand). Luckily, if you fall in the latter camp, you’ll have a chance to redeem yourself during Lunar New Year on February 10.
ICYMI, the Lunar New Year signifies the season of spring cleaning and new beginnings. The celebration typically lasts 15 to 16 days and it’s symbolized by a different animal from the Chinese zodiac elements. You might remember that 2023 was all about the lucky rabbit (still waiting for our winning lottery ticket). This year, however, we’re welcoming a new animal that’s all about power: The dragon. “As the luckiest and most auspicious of the 12 animals, the dragon is thought to signify unprecedented opportunities. In a dragon year, people are said to be able to harness the creature’s intelligence, leadership and abilities to pursue their dreams with creativity, passion, courage and confidence,” writes Kathryn Wortley for The Japan Times.
All of that’s to say that there are many ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year (like decorating with red and feasting with family and friends). This year, however, we’re seeing retailers embrace the holiday’s tradition of gift-giving with an emphasis dragons. Across the board, designers seem to be calling on zodiac for inspiration—from Pokémon Fendi bags and fiery Bottega Veneta sneakers to a silk dragon-printed Dior scarf. Not only do the campaigns feature literal dragons printed on handbags and accessories, but we’re also seeing lots of green fins, yellow eyes and fiery red breath. (It’s also worth mentioning that red is the emblematic color of Lunar New Year—and the hue is popping up everywhere in interiors right now.)
So below, we’ve rounded up 20 of the best Lunar New Year’s gifts—from designer bags and luxury fragrances to healing wellness sets that’ll offer a fresh start for the year ahead.
