There are only two types of people during January: Those who have their lives together—doing dry January and exercising regularly—and those who are still dealing with a holiday hangover (raises hand). Luckily, if you fall in the latter camp, you’ll have a chance to redeem yourself during Lunar New Year on February 10.

ICYMI, the Lunar New Year signifies the season of spring cleaning and new beginnings. The celebration typically lasts 15 to 16 days and it’s symbolized by a different animal from the Chinese zodiac elements. You might remember that 2023 was all about the lucky rabbit (still waiting for our winning lottery ticket). This year, however, we’re welcoming a new animal that’s all about power: The dragon. “As the luckiest and most auspicious of the 12 animals, the dragon is thought to signify unprecedented opportunities. In a dragon year, people are said to be able to harness the creature’s intelligence, leadership and abilities to pursue their dreams with creativity, passion, courage and confidence,” writes Kathryn Wortley for The Japan Times

All of that’s to say that there are many ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year (like decorating with red and feasting with family and friends). This year, however, we’re seeing retailers embrace the holiday’s tradition of gift-giving with an emphasis dragons. Across the board, designers seem to be calling on zodiac for inspiration—from Pokémon Fendi bags and fiery Bottega Veneta sneakers to a silk dragon-printed Dior scarf. Not only do the campaigns feature literal dragons printed on handbags and accessories, but we’re also seeing lots of green fins, yellow eyes and fiery red breath. (It’s also worth mentioning that red is the emblematic color of Lunar New Year—and the hue is popping up everywhere in interiors right now.)

So below, we’ve rounded up 20 of the best Lunar New Year’s gifts—from designer bags and luxury fragrances to healing wellness sets that’ll offer a fresh start for the year ahead.

Best Cookware Gift

1. Limited Edition Our Place Always 2.0 Pan

Our Place

Let’s just get one thing out of the way: This all-in-one skillet is so good, it’ll replace your entire 16-piece cookware set. It scored 93-points out of 100 in a PureWow100 review—and aside from its ceramic nonstick coating—the biggest draw to this pan is “its [included] steamer basket insert and custom wooden spatula that nests into the built-in spoon rest,” according to food editor Katherine Gillen. So, in preparation for the New Year’s feast, Our Place released it in festive, limited edition colors that span from vibrant yellow and red to a muted terra—along with a stoneware rice bowl set and a spruce steamer that would be great to prepare dumplings with.

2. New Balance Lunar New Year 574 Sneakers

New Balance

The 574 is currently ranked as the second most popular at New Balance and you’ll definitely want to snag this limited-edition pair (before it goes out of stock). Mainly because they’re comfortable, come in a huge range of colors and cost less than $100. Take it from Purewow’s senior food editor, Katherine Gillen, who says these are her favorite everyday comfy sneakers: “They're true to size, come in lots of colors, go with everything and aren't so crazy expensive that I couldn't buy a backup pair. But the real draw for me has been how comfortable they are. There was no break-in period (unheard of for me!), and they're lightweight and super cushy without making my feet hot and sweaty. They're also not too narrow and don't squeeze the balls of my feet in a way that many casual sneakers do. I love them for city walking and travel in particular.”

What better way to celebrate a year of ambition than with a gorgeous statement pendant? The oversized coin, which is crafted from sterling silver with a 14k gold dip, features a double-sided design with a dragon, star and "Et Surgo" (meaning "I Rise") on one side, and the JW logo with the inscription "STRONG" on the other. You can choose from various chain necklace options, including a 16- to 18-inch beaded satellite chain, an 18-inch adjustable drawn link chain or a 32-inch mini twist link gold plated chain.

4. Charlotte Tilbury Queen of Luck Palette

Charlotte Tilbury

If there’s one makeup palette that’ll bring some luck to a first date, it’s this one from Charlotte Tilbury. It was expertly curated with the dragon in mind, featuring duo-chrome golden pink, warm terracotta-brown and champagne gold shades to effortlessly create a moonlight-inspired look. Not only is the emollient-rich pigment easy to blend, but the highly pigmented formula promises to last day to night (per the brand)

Best Gift Under $20

5. Coton Colors Chinese Zodiac Dragon Bowl

maisonette

Here, a contemporary, ceramic bowl that showcases black dot patterns and a blue dragon emblem at the center. What’s more, according to Coton Colors, “those born under the year of the Dragon (1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024) are known to be energetic and romantic but can be quite impatient.” The brand then translated the sign’s characteristics—like ambitious, imaginative and stylish—into words on the outside of the bowl, making it a thoughtful, unique gift for anyone who was born during a dragon year.

Best Dumpling Gift

6. Cooking Gift Set Co. Chinese Soup Dumpling Kit

Cooking Gift Set Co.

If there’s one thing that makes the Chinese New Year complete, it’s dumplings. This kit has everything you need to make Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings at home, including a 5-piece bamboo steamer, a dough roller, wooden spatula, parchment paper, agar powder and instructions/recipes.

Best Plant Gift

7. Bloomscape Money Tree Braid

Bloomscape

Speaking of luck, the Money Tree is perhaps the most fitting item for this year’s theme; the plant gets its name from the positive energy and good fortune it brings to the owner. That, coupled with the fact that it’s almost impossible to kill, makes this the perfect gift for anyone on your list this year.

This candy duo is just as pretty as it is delicious, thanks to the lantern-shaped packaging it’s enclosed in. The set features two candy cubes, one filled with good fortune truffles that are infused with rich chocolate, espresso, and vodka flavors and the other with lotus flowers gummies; juicy lychee-flavored gummies shaped like lotus flowers. Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Best Décor Gift

9. Glasshouse Fragrances Dance of the Dragon Candle

Glasshouse Fragrances

Why we’re obsessed with this special-edition candle (aside from its swoon-worthy design)? It has a strong, unique fragrance that features refreshing top notes of mandarin, amber, and green cypress, sweet middle notes of rosewood, jasmine, and vanilla and earthy base notes of balsam, cedarwood, musk, patchouli, and sandalwood. The vessel is also a show-stopper and it’s guaranteed to make a great coffee table accent after the candle’s 80-hour burn time is done.

Best Skincare Gift

10. Augustinus Bader ‘The Serum’ Lunar New Year Edition

Augustinus Bader

After awarding this serum 93 points out of 100 in a PureWow100 review, former PureWow editor Brianna Lapolla writes: “I read that [this serum] only takes four days to notice a change in your skin, and having tried hundreds of beauty products, I assumed it was a placebo effect if anything. But much to my amazement, my skin (which broke out like a 15-year-old during quarantine) was radiant, blemish-free and so much more hydrated after just a few days of use.” Needless to say, we’ll be gifting this limited edition red bottle to anyone who’s skin-care obsessed (and grabbing one for ourselves before it sells out).

Need something that will help soothe your little one to sleep? This cuddly dragon doubles as a nightlight that projects a starry night sky. Simply place it on the floor, press the dragon's back for a 45-minute light show, and it'll automatically switch off. You can also press the button again for an additional 45 minutes of soothing lights—and it even includes an illustrated star guide for some bedtime stargazing and constellation learning.

12. Bottega Veneta Small Andiamo Bag

Bottega Veneta

ICYMI, 2024 is all about experimental looks, and this year, Bottega Veneta released a Lunar New Year collection that encompasses dark greens, yellows, reds and black—many accented with dragon-like fins or medieval patterns. See the shoulder bag above, which reinvents the brand’s signature Andiamo design with an emerald green checker pattern and a brass bow accent. Otherwise, if you’re looking for something more pared back, there’s also the long Andiamo clutch available in three dragon-inspired hues (emerald green, fondant and Barolo).
