Billy Porter Reveals His Hopes for Pray Tell in Season 3 of ‘Pose’

Season two of Pose brought star of the hit FX show Billy Porter an Emmy. So what do the writers have in store for his character Pray Tell in the forthcoming chapter of the series?

“I have no updates! Y’all always ask questions that you know you can’t get the answers to,” he joked when PureWow sat down with him to discuss his Giving Tuesday Partnership with PayPal. (ICYMI: The financial platform is matching ten percent of every donation made to its Giving Fund, up to a total of $600,000, for Giving Tuesday.)

Joking aside, the 50-year-old Tony Award winner went on to say, “No but for real, I don’t know anything [about the new season]. I’ve just sort of been working a lot. I know they’re in the [writers’] room. I know they’re in talks.”

Although he may not have any spoilers about where season three will take Pray Tell, Angel (Indya Moore), Blanca (MJ Rodriguez) and the rest of the crew, Porter does have an idea of what he’d like to see happen for his character. “I would love to see Pray Tell in a relationship that works. I would love to see [my character] crack open a conversation with the black community and the church,” he told us.

But as far as whether or not that will happen, Porter says, “We’ll see. Hopefully the Pose gods are listening.”

What he does know is that he’s appreciative of the fact that he gets to tell Pray Tell’s story on TV. He said of the series, “I just am grateful that I’ve lived long enough to see this day…The fact that I get to stand here in my authenticity as a black, gay, out man is—it blows my mind. That’s how far we’ve come and with that said, there’s a lot farther to go. And I am grateful that our show positions me and everyone else involved in a way to sort of keep the conversation moving forward.”

Now we wait for season three to drop…
