As an editor who has covered women’s lifestyle trends for over 15 years, I’ve seen everything—the pickle craze, the rise of peplum, the ascendence of Cross Fit, the wolf cut, the second rise of peplum

And through it all, I’ve maintained that, as a well-informed person, you don’t need to follow every trend. (A lesson I learned the hard way, thanks to a Bump-It and high-low hemline.) But you probably should know about the trends. You know…to stay relevant.

That’s why I always have a blast rounding up what’s in and what’s out for the coming year—in the name of take-it-or-leave-it research, rather than prescriptive gospel. Here’s what’s on tap for 2025, from the shoes you’ll be wearing to the way you’ll be buying them.

1. The Micro-Bob

Remember the lob, aka: the “long bob,” aka the hairstyle every Alexa-Chung-devotee was requesting back in the mid-aughts? Well, when it comes to short, long is now out and extra short is way in, with this year’s trendsetters, from Gabreille Union to Hailey Bieber, opting for a cut that falls somewhere between the jawline and cheekbones. PureWow Beauty editor Chelsea Candelario maintains we have the French to credit with this trend, and she likes it as an easy style that works on most hair types. Celebrity hairstylist Danielle Keasling calls it, “a sleek and bold look that exudes confidence and sophistication.”

2. Suede Sneakers

Good news for people who can’t keep a white sneaker clean (ie: moi): PureWow’s Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida tells me this year will be all about colored suede sneakers, which “add an elevated touch to sporty, casual looks, along with some vintage flair.” Trending styles include the Puma Speedcat (spotted on Jennifer Lawrence and Dua Lipa) and the Adidas Gazelle in brown suede, but there are also offerings from Nike, Rag and Bone and Miu Miu on the horizon. As for how to wear them? Maida says you should pair them with, “wide-leg jeans and trousers, tennis skirts, sporty rugby shirts and dresses of all kinds.”

3. Longevity Is the New Anti-Aging

Is “wrinkle” a dirty word? No, but as we move into the new year, we’ll see an emphasis on actually living longer and a move away from products that simply make you look younger. (2025’s answer to the whole “diet” vs “health” shift of ten years ago, perhaps.) This comes on the heels on the success of books like Peter Attia’s bestselling Outlive and a recent McKinsey Health Institute report, which found that more than 60 percent of people polled intended to purchase longevity products. According to PureWow’s Wellness Director Sarah Stiefvater, longevity practices will run the gamut in the coming year. “Take, for example, AgelessRx,” she says, “a longevity-focused telehealth provider that sells supplements and Ozempic (starting at $1,350), but also an at-home bio age blood test (starting at $495), which measures 900,000+ biomarkers to provide insights into your outcomes, lifespan and true biological age...apparently.” And even if you’re not in the market for a $500 blood test, expect more diets and lifestyle-adjustments made with the explicit purpose hitting the big one-zero-zero.

4. “Wicked” Whiplash (Hope You Love Green and Pink...)

Wicked green and pink will continue to dominate the movie-collab world—even if it induces trend-fatigue. Says PureWow’s VP of News and Entertainment, Phil Mutz: “Ariana and Cynthia were everywhere on their 2024 Wicked press tour (producing some of the fall's most meme-able moments). But 2025 brings awards season (where the Wicked stars and the film will dominate) followed by part two of the film, which means we won't be getting a break from seeing green and pink in products, ad campaigns, interviews and memes. Expect winter and spring 2025 to bring Wicked backlash as green + pink collabs trend everywhere, even if they feel tired and forced. But also expect whiplash in fall 2025, when the new film finally arrives as fans forgive the oversaturation and once again embrace everything Elphaba and Glinda.”

5. Sourdough (Again)

“I think many of us became familiar with sourdough bread firsthand in the pandemic by making it at home,” says PureWow’s Food Editor Taryn Pire. “And now that it has major ‘brand recognition’ across many demographics, it's the perfect time for purveyors to put products like sourdough pasta, pizza crust and waffle mix on shelves.” Case in point: Whole Foods named sourdough one of its top food predictions for the year, thanks to a slew of new offerings, like Bionaturae Organic Sourdough Spaghetti, jesha’s Sourdough Pancake Mix and Patagonia Provisions Sourdough Sea Salt Organic Crackers. “Consider it a natural extension of 2024’s trend of fermented foods,” adds Pire.

6. Capes

Sorry to disappoint Ms. Edna Mode, but capes are indeed going to become the It outerwear silhouette of 2025,” predicts PureWow’s Fashion Editor, Abby Hepworth. Indeed, sleeveless wonders were all over the runways for the FW 2025 shows for Chloé, Lovechild 1979, Toteme and Bottega Veneta, and everyday brands have followed suit, with more affordable options from Land’s End and Cuyana. “Not quite ready to invest in a whole new winter coat? Try pinning an oversize scarf or wrap around your shoulders to fake the look instead,” suggests Hepworth.

7. TikTok Shopping (Probably)

Want to learn something sobering? According to CNN, TikTok Shop brought in $100 million this past Black Friday, with a 165 percent increase in sales year-over-year. What is TikTok Shop, you ask? Well, in case you’re one of the few people who hasn’t handed over her credit card information to buy a multi-peptide hair serum on the app, I’ll explain: TikTok Shop is a program that exists, right inside your feed, for influencers and brands to sell directly to their audiences, via the short-form video format people know and love. All transactions happen without leaving TikTok, and buyers get the recommendation of a person they trust. Expect to see lots more shopping migrate this way in the coming year, including PureWow’s own TikTok Shopping channel, coming atcha in the next few months.

The only potential hangup? The government’s will-they-or-won’t-they impending TikTok ban. Most business leaders and influences I’ve spoken to think this this isn’t likely to come to fruition, but if it does, they predict the experience will simply migrate to a different platform. YouTube Shopping, anyone?
