From Poisonous Fruit to That Suspicious Baby Shower, Here Are All the ‘White Lotus’ S3 Loose Ends We Still Have to Tie Up

nine questions left unanswered

There’s only one episode left in season three of The White Lotus and so many questions left to answer. Beyond the biggie—i.e., who gets killed and who does the killing?—we still don’t have answers to some equally huge questions that will have a big impact on the fates of our beloved hotel guests and staff. Will the Thai police come to arrest Timothy on behalf of the U.S. government? Are the monkeys at the resort harboring violent tendencies? Will Alexsei ever get the money he needs to cure his poor sick mother?

OK, at least we know that last one is a scam. But here are ten of the biggest questions left unanswered with only one episode to go.

*Spoilers ahead*

I Have a Wild Theory About the White Lotus Killer & Victim (And It’s Been Right in Front of Us All Along)

1. Chekhov’s Poisonous Fruit

One of the very first things we learn about this resort is that it’s covered in poisonous fruit trees. And then it just...never comes up again? I think not. If someone doesn’t die via fruit in the finale, I’ll eat my hat one of Saxon’s creatine shakes.

2. That Weekend-Long Baby Shower

Via a supremely awkward conversation the first morning of this trip, we learn that Kate and Victoria have mutual friends (even if Victoria refuses to admit it). Like the fruit, this has yet to be revisited. True, this could have just been a way to show us more about the personalities of these two women—Kate being overly friendly and Victoria being overly suspicious of anyone outside her immediate family—but I think there may be more to it. Maybe Kate will be the one to let it slip to Victoria that her husband is being hunted by the FBI and upend the lives of the Ratliff family...

3. Gary/Greg’s Lowball Buyout

Will Belinda take Gary/Greg’s $100K offer to keep her mouth shut? Or will she realize that that is entirely insufficient money to launch a spa business with? Will she call Interpol herself since Fabian refuses to take her seriously? And if she does reject his offer, what is Gary/Greg going to do about it?

4. Rick’s Violent Altercation

Rick did not end up shooting Jim Hollinger. But he did assault him, making Rick’s ability to go back to the White Lotus resort—and more importantly check out and leave the resort—without incident significantly more complicated. As far as I see it, there are three options: The first and happiest (read: least likely) is that Jim turns out to be Rick’s dad, forgives him for the assault and Rick and Chelsea join Sritala and her husband for a grand reunion of father and son. Second, the Hollingers have Rick arrested by Thai police. Third, and I’m sad to say what I feel is most likely to happen, is that the Hollinger bodyguards shoot and kill Rick (and Chelsea?) on their way out the door.

5. Gaitok and the Hotel Robbers

So we finally have confirmation that Valentin’s friends are the folks who robbed the hotel at gunpoint. But what is Gaitok going to do with that information? So much of his character has been defined by his strong morals and sense of duty, so I think it’s highly likely he tries to tell Fabian or his security guard boss, but what will come of his honesty?

6. Piper’s Buddhist Journey

I think it’s pretty safe to say that Piper can handle the lifestyle of the Buddhist monastery just fine, but is she realizing that it may not ultimately be what she wants? She seemed pretty peeved by Lochlan’s proposal that he also stay in Thailand, revealing that her desire to stay may be more about escaping her family and less about a spiritual awakening. Will she go through with her original plan just to spite her mother, or pivot and find a different way to escape her fellow Ratliffs?

7. Pain vs. Hope

Chelsea tells Saxon that she and Rick are “in this yin and yang battle. And I’m hope and Rick is pain and eventually one of us will win.” So which one will it be? The obvious likelihood is pain—I am more and more convinced with each passing hour that Rick cannot possibly survive this season—but maybe Mike White will be kind and give us hope instead.

8. Saxon and Lochlan

Will the Ratliff brothers ever again be able to look one another in the eye? Or shake hands? Or exist in one another’s orbit at all? Maybe Lochlan should look into attending college on the West coast to give everyone a little space...

9. The Resort’s “Digital Detox”

Anyone else notice that the Ratliffs are the only guests who are asked to surrender their electronics at the start of their trip? Maybe we didn’t see Mook asking Chelsea and Rick or Valentin asking the trio of blondes because they are not nearly as addicted to their electronics as the Ratliffs seem—there’s only so much time in each episode, and do we really need to see every single guest grappling with being glued to their phones? Or maybe, just maybe, Pam surrendered their phones so she could go through their contents because she’s working with the FBI. Farfetched? Yes, but I would love to see Pam turn out to be a surprise heavy hitter.

10. What Time of Year Is This All Taking Place?

High school seniors typically need to inform colleges of their enrollment before the start of May. We know that Lochlan is still deciding between Duke and Chapel Hill, so May must still be on the horizon. This originally led me to assume the Ratliff family vacay is taking place over spring break—and yet Zion just finished up his final exams? I guess if he went to Dartmouth or another university that runs on the trimester system (the winter trimester ends in mid-March) this timing might work out...except that college acceptance letters don’t typically go out until April. Does this even matter? Not in the slightest, but it’s a puzzle that’s been driving me crazy since episode one.
