‘Yellowstone’ & ‘Friday Night Lights’ Fans, Netflix Is About to Drop Your New Fave Show

I predict it'll be a hit

Between Netflix’s slew of new releases and season three of The White Lotus on Max, my watchlist has never been longer. But there’s one more series from Netflix that I just added to my ever-growing list, and if you’re a fan of Virgin River, Friday Night Lights or Yellowstone, you will, too.

It’s rare when a show truly has me hooked from the trailer alone. But with Josh Duhamel playing a rugged cowboy rancher, an intense will-they-won't-they love story and some obvious small-town tension, how can I resist? In case you missed it, Netflix is releasing their own Yellowstone-esque romantic drama, Ransom Canyon, slated to hit the platform in mid-April. Per Netflix, the show "charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country." Sound familiar?

Duhamel's character, Staten Kirkland, is the "owner and sole occupant of the sprawling Double K Ranch, reeling from the loss of his wife. Staten leads the charge to resist the outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves," writes Netflix.

Alongside Duhamel, Minka Kelly (and Friday Night Lights alum) plays Quinn O'Grady, who recently returned to the Texan town to escape the abrupt end to her NYC career as a concert pianist. Throughout the trailer, it's clear the two have crazy chemistry and a complicated history. It may not be Mel and Jack's love story, but I think it'll be just as binge-worthy.

Fans are already itching to see how this new Western series compares to the hit 2006 teen show, with Kelly in the middle of yet another wild love triangle. All it's missing is some good ol' high school football and drama. Wait, it has that, too.

I wasn’t the only one to see the striking similarities, with one fan writing in the comments of Kelly’s IG post announcing the show, “It's like Yellowstone and Friday Night Lights had a baby, and I'm so here for it!” See the full trailer down below.

Ransom Canyon will be available to watch only on Netflix on April 17.

Happy streaming!
