This Must-See Netflix Thriller Is So Good it Was Renewed for Season 3 Before Season 2 Even Arrived

You'll be glued to the TV

I don’t know about you, but I watch a lot of TV. Whether it’s documentaries, limited series or movies—if it’s on, I’ve probably seen it, especially reality shows. But there’s one type of show that always pulls me in: suspenseful, thrilling, with perfectly-timed comedic relief, tons of action and—let’s be real—an easy-on-the-eyes lead.

So, naturally, when The Night Agent popped up on my Netflix feed back in March 2023, I had to check it out—and wow, I’m so glad I did. Keep reading to find out more, and don't worry, there are no spoilers ahead.

This action-packed thriller, based on the novel of the same name, stars Gabriel Basso, who, TBH, wasn’t on my radar before but definitely is now. He plays FBI Agent Peter Sutherland, who starts out in what seems like a boring desk job but quickly finds himself tangled in a massive conspiracy involving a mole at the highest levels of the U.S. government.

As Peter dives headfirst into a high-stakes mission to uncover the traitor, he also has to protect former tech CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), whose aunt and uncle were murdered. Just when you think you’ve figured out who the mole is, bam—another twist hits you. Oh, and in between dodging bullets, there’s that will-they-won’t-they sexual tension building between Peter and Rose, which, let’s be honest, makes things even more addicting.

Everything about this show is just really good and it’s not just me who thinks so. Within a week of dropping, the show was renewed for season two. It became Netflix’s third-most-viewed series after just four days, and by the end of the month, it ranked as the platform’s sixth-most-watched show ever. It was even the number one show on the streamer for a while.

With hype like that, it’s no wonder fans (myself included) are begging for season two, which is set to drop in early 2025. As to what to look forward to from the upcoming season, Netflix shared that the story picks up right after Peter’s heroic attempt to save the president in season one, which lands him a spot as a Night Agent (hello, upgrade from answering phones.) But joining the secretive Night Action crew is no walk in the park. He’s diving headfirst into a world where danger is lurking around every corner and trust is harder to find than a decent avocado toast.

And to make things even more exciting, Netflix already renewed it for season three so you can already count on more action-packed episodes. According to the streamer, production for season three of The Night Agent is set to kick off in Istanbul at the end of 2024, before making its way back to New York for filming in 2025.

It’s rare to find a show that keeps me guessing, glued to the screen and (gasp) off my phone while I’m watching. So, if you haven’t seen The Night Agent yet, now’s the perfect time to binge it—or, like me, start a rewatch to refresh everything before the new season drops. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
