Netflix’s New #1 Show Uncovers the Truth About an Infamous Serial Killer

If you love a good conspiracy theory, we highly recommend you dive into Netflix’s all-new series, The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness.

The four-part documentary just premiered on the streaming service this week, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Selena: The Series, The Circle, Shadow & Bone, Cocomelon and The Innocent.)

So, what’s it about? The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness focuses on a filmmaker’s desperate attempt to uncover the truth about David Berkowitz. (If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because his story is featured in Mindhunter season two).

The serial killer is infamous for carrying out eight separate shootings in New York City, targeting couples parked in their cars. Although his murder spree took place back in the ’70s, the doc examines what really happened behind closed doors. For example, what provoked Berkowitz to commit the murders in the first place? Did he really act alone? Or was he assisted by members of a Satanic cult?

The Sons of Sam was directed by Joshua Zeman (The Killing Season). The docuseries stars Michael Zuckerman, Georgiana Byrne, Phil Amicone, Charlie Ott, Kevin Murphy, Wayne Darwen, Lawrence Klausner, Dick Belsky and Mary Murphy, with narrations by Paul Giamatti.

BRB, watching all four episodes of The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness consecutively. (You know, almost like a really long movie.)
