Jodie Foster is a force to be reckoned with. Not only has she snagged two Academy Awards, but the legendary actress also has three British Academy Film Awards, three Golden Globes and a number of critically acclaimed films under her belt. In fact, just recently, Foster received two Emmy nominations—Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series—for her role as Detective Elizabeth Danvers in HBO's True Detective: Night Country.

While talking with W Magazine about her recent film, Nyad, the actress revealed that she had a personal tie to the movie. “I knew Bonnie [Stoll] and Diana [Nyad] for years, running into them at Christmas parties and barbecues, and I just loved them,” she said. “I thought they were quirky and interesting. And then Diana’s amazing feat happened—swimming 110 miles from Cuba to Florida. When they approached me with the script, I couldn’t resist.”

Naturally, fans are now curious to know even more about her partner, Alexandra Hedison, especially with the Emmys coming up on September 15. For instance when did they get married? And does she work in the entertainment industry? Here's what we know about Jodie Foster’s wife.

1. Who Is Jodie Foster's Wife?

Foster's wife, Alexandra Hedison, is a fine art photographer. She's done quite a few exhibits, and some of her impressive work can be found on her personal website. But before shifting into photography full time, Hedison was an actress and director, much like her partner.

You may have spotted her in shows like Prey and The L Word, but her acting career was short-lived because she wasn't a fan of the spotlight. She told The New York Times, "I was supporting myself, but I was miserable. Actors need to be front and center all the time. That's not me."

3. When Did They Get Married?

After dating for about a year, Foster and Hedison tied the knot in April of 2014. Given that both ladies are notoriously private about their personal lives, further details haven't been shared about the nuptials, but the big announcement came several months after Foster gave her memorable speech at the 2013 Golden Globes.

While accepting her Cecil B. DeMille Award, she addressed her coming out moment and said, "I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago, back in the stone age. If you had been a public figure from the time that you were a toddler, if you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe then you too might value privacy above all else."

4. What Is Foster's Dating History?

Foster dated Cydney Bernard for 14 years after meeting her on the set of Sommersby in 1993. Though they never got married, the couple had two sons together (one in 1998 and one in 2001).

During an appearance on The View, Foster admitted that she didn’t tell her kids she’s an actress until they were older. “I don’t know why, I guess I just didn’t want them to know me that way,” she said, according to People. “I wanted them to know me as their mom and the person who went away to work and stuff. I just didn’t want them to be confused about what I did for a living.”
