It’s no secret that Denzel Washington’s youngest daughter, Olivia, is following in his footsteps as a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. But she’s not the only one.
Meet Katia Washington, Denzel’s oldest daughter. The 36-year-old has been developing quite the resume over the years—in fact, she’s already worked with her award-winning dad on not one, not two, but three separate occasions.
Katia first worked with her dad on The Equalizer (2014), where he played a retired CIA operative embarking on a mission to save a sex worker (Chloë Grace Moretz) who is being controlled by violent Russian mobsters. She didn’t have a film-related job—instead, she served as an assistant to producers Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal. Still, The Equalizer jump started her career in the entertainment industry.
Fast-forward to 2016, when Katia worked with her dad for the second time. In Fences, Denzel starred alongside Viola Davis, while Katia gained experience behind the scenes as an associate producer.
Most recently, Katia served as an executive producer on an upcoming Denzel-led project, titled High and Low. Directed by Spike Lee, the movie is a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller.
It’s also important to note that Katia has worked with other members of the Washington family. She served as a co-executive producer on Netflix’s Malcolm & Marie. Although Denzel wasn’t part of the cast, her brother, John David Washington, had the leading role alongside Zendaya.
In 2022, Katia co-produced younger sister Olivia Washington’s movie Breaking, and she will serve as an executive producer on her brother John David’s upcoming film The Piano Lesson.
It’s safe to say that talent runs in the family.
