During his stint on The O.C., Adam Brody was the heartthrob that tween girls (me included) daydreamed about, thanks to his nerdy charm and refreshing humor. Two decades later, women (again, me included) are still obsessing over the actor as he makes headlines for his standout performance in Netflix's Nobody Wants This. The rom-com was praised by several critics and even scored a few Golden Globe nominations. So now, I'm curious to know how the show's success influenced his net worth.

In case you didn't know, Brody is currently worth an estimated $14 million, thanks in huge part to his acting roles. But what are his other sources of income? Has he pursued other endeavors? Keep reading to see how the curly-haired California native made his fortune.

1. What Is Adam Brody's Net Worth in 2025?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Adam Brody is worth approximately $14 million, thanks mainly to his acting career, his real estate investments and the music he performs with his indie band, Big Japan.

2. What Was Adam Brody's Salary on The O.C.?

Details about Brody's salary on The O.C. have not been made public. However, Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Brody's co-star, Ben McKenzie, earned about $15,000 to $25,000 per episode, so it's possible that Brody earned around the same amount during the show's four-season run. At a total of 92 episodes, this calculates to at least $1.4 million.

3. Is It True That He Turned Down a Lot of Money for The O.C. Reboot?

Brody hasn't addressed the rumor directly, but he did note in a 2023 interview that he's not too enthusiastic about the idea. He told E! News, "If there was a reason—and I mean like a really inspired idea—yes. But other than that…probably not, no."

However, a source close to Brody claimed the actor turned down an opportunity to do a reboot. The insider told Life & Style, “At some point during the early part of the pandemic, the ball started rolling on the idea of bringing back The O.C. with the former teen stars returning as adults and introducing a new cast of SoCal high schoolers."

They continued, "I can’t speak to who exactly from the cast was enthusiastic about the idea, but Adam was firmly against it and essentially talked the creator of the show, Josh Schwartz, out of the idea. You don’t see this happen a lot, especially these days, and everybody became aware of the fact that Adam and Josh turned down a lot of money because they are so focused on protecting the legacy of the original mid-2000s series.”

4. How Much Did Adam Brody Make From Netflix's Nobody Wants This

Information about Brody's salary for the Netflix series hasn't been revealed, but it's safe to assume it's a pretty penny, considering the show's massive success.

The show currently boasts a 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and it got renewed for a second season less than a month after its premiere. Deadline also reports that in its first week, the 10-episode series gained 15.9 million views and soared to the top spot on Netflix's list of most-watched English-language TV shows. (Oh, and did I mention that Brody's wife, Leighton Meester, is joining the cast of season two?)

5. How Much Did He Make From His Other Movie and TV Roles?

In addition to Nobody Wants This, Brody has appeared in several notable films, including Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jennifer's Body, Shazam!, Promising Young Woman and American Fiction. His television appearances include Smallville, Gilmore Girls, House of Lies and New Girl. It's worth noting the California native also produced and starred in the crime drama, StartUp, which ran for three seasons on Crackle.

As it turns out, Brody's earnings for each of his projects are typically kept under wraps, but his most successful titles include Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which made $487.3 million at the box office, Shazam! ($367.8 million) and Ready or Not ($57.6 million).

6. What About His Band?

In 2005, Brody teamed up with his pals Nathaniel Castro, Bret Harrison and Brad Babinski to form a rock band called Big Japan. The group is based in Los Angeles and Brody is the drummer.

Big Japan released their debut album, Music for Dummies (later changed to Untitled) on August 23, 2005, through Nightshift Records. However, they haven't released any other albums, and they don't perform or record consistently because both Brody and fellow actor, Harrison, have unpredictable schedules. How much Brody has made from the band's music is unknown, but the actor once revealed that his drumming skills helped him land a part in the movie Yoga Hosers.

He told AV Club, "I had a very casual band [Big Japan] with some friends in my 20s where I played drums. I don’t call myself a drummer, because I’m not and I don’t know that much, but I can play drums so that’s actually why [Kevin Smith] hired me for the movie. Funnily enough, he just looked up actors that play drums and he was like, 'Hey, I know that guy.'"

7. What About Adam Brody's Real Estate?

In December 2019, Brody and his wife, Leighton Meester, bought a 6,000-square-foot home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of L.A. for $6.5 million. Sadly, however, TMZ reported in January 2025 that the couple lost their home in the Los Angeles wildfires.
