2 Zodiac Signs That Are Old Souls

The “grandpas” of the zodiac give the best advice

If there’s anything I’ve learned in my time as a practicing astrologer, it’s that people seek guidance when they need a reminder of their own beauty and uniqueness. A question that comes up a lot for me in astrological sessions is, “Am I an old soul?” Having an old soul isn’t about believing in past lives. It’s about knowing that from an early age, some of us have done and seen a lot. The person asking me if they’re an old soul usually knows they’re one intuitively, has the qualifications on their resumé of life, but still needs external validation to claim it. Sometimes a client doesn’t ask directly and I float the thought only to see their eyes light up.

“Yes, I’ve always thought that about myself,” they say. “Does the chart really say that?”

There are many places to look to find that “old soul” quality in the chart, or in some cases, the opposite of that (Aries, sweet babies of the zodiac, I’m looking at you). The moon phase we’re born under speaks of the energy we bring to life, and a strongly placed Saturn can speak to aging backwards (Benjamin Button-ing if you will). But there are two zodiac signs that without fail speak to someone who is, at the very least, an old soul rising: Pisces and Capricorn. Let’s get into why.

1. Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Capricorn is sometimes called the “grandpa” of the zodiac, but this isn’t the whole reason that our thoughtful and chic sea goats are old souls. As the sign of the winter solstice, Capricorn is the sign that contains the literal bones of the unfolding year. The fruits that fall off the branches in the summer are made possible by the ice that melts into the earth during winter. Capricorns are focused on the structure of things which starts with having a historical understanding of them. Capricorns (and also those with a lot of Capricorn placements) are tasked from a young age with maintaining legacy. The responsibility Capricorns must take on gets easier as they get older and have more experience. This is why many Capricorns seem to age backwards.

2. Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Pisces being the sign where the astrological wheel both ends and begins makes them both the oldest souls and the youngest at heart. But for now, we’re going to focus on their old soul qualities. Pisces, the mutable water sign, is seasonally aligned with the very end of winter. Though Aries gets the fresh slate vibes and rebirth of spring, Pisces contains the entire process that comes before that renewal. The mutable water sign is known for being a bit flaky or spacy at times. This is less because Pisces are “out to lunch” and more because they’re swimming in a spiral of all that came before and all that is still to come. It’s hard work to be so sensitive! Capricorn wisdom is practical and earthy, but Pisces wisdom is emotional. Think about it: Is anything wiser than the ocean?
