Simone Biles Celebrates ‘Interesting and Unexpected’ Team Final at World Championships with New IG Post

When it comes to Simone Biles, 26, we're not usually shocked when she takes home the top prize. However, it seems the gymnast still gets taken aback when she wins the gold.

In a new Instagram post, the Ohio native celebrated her team’s gold-winning performance at the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships. “Team finals,” Biles wrote in her caption, along with a white heart emoji. “It was an interesting & unexpected night! I’m so proud of the fight Team USA put out...It’s such a blessing to represent the US at another World Championships! Also go WCC.” (FYI: WCC stands for World Champions Centre, the artistic gymnastics academy owned by Biles’s family.)

At the championship, Team USA took first place, marking an unprecedented seventh-consecutive team gold medal. Biles, along with her teammates—Skye Blakely, Shi Jones, Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong—turned in a combined score of 167.729, besting Brazil, who came in second, followed by France in third.

Of course, one of the first supportive comments came from Biles’s husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, 28, who wrote, “SO PROUD [fire emoji] [heart emoji]. Love being able to watch you do your thing.”

It was an exciting week for Biles, who ended up taking home three more individual gold medals, for her performances on the floor, balance beam and all-around. She also collected a silver medal in the vault competition.

After her all-around victory on Friday, October 6 (her sixth all-around World win), Biles became the most-decorated gymnast—male or female—of all time. She now has 23 World Gymnastic Championship gold medals, which she can proudly display next to her 4 Olympic gold medals.
