Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, 63, is paying tribute to two inspiring women: her late mother, Susan Barrantes, and the former monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

Yesterday on Instagram, the Duchess of York posted a slideshow filled with extremely rare photos of the late queen and Fergie’s mom. The first photo included in the post shows Her Majesty and Barrantes (who was sadly killed in a car crash in 1998) sharing a laugh. In another pic, Barrantes is smiling and talking on the phone.

In the caption, Ferguson wrote, “My beloved mother Susie died 25 years ago today, taken far too young. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don't think about her, her indomitable spirit and her joy for life.”

Ferguson also honored the late monarch, adding, “Today is also the first anniversary of Her Late Majesty the Queen's funeral. As I have often said before, the Queen was like a second mother to me and I will always be grateful for the love and understanding she showed me throughout her life.”

She continued, “Today I celebrate the legacy of the two women who gave me so much strength and courage. I am so thankful for their guidance and the examples they set, which I try always to live up to.”

The royal duchess has always been open about the special bond she once shared with the queen. Back in August 2021, the mother of two appeared on the Tea with Twiggy podcast and revealed how her former mother-in-law was her “greatest mentor.”

“I've got my lovely ex-husband, he always believes in me, but the real person, my greatest mentor and person who believes in me is the queen,” she said at the time. “She has never faltered, and I absolutely admire the incredible way Her Majesty is so modern... and how flexible, and how understanding, and how forgiving and how generous.”

What a lovely tribute.
