For January, Reese Witherspoon recommended to her book club readers an enticing, thriller novel titled  First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston. And now, the Big Little Lies star is starting the month of February with a new book selection that’s jam-packed with nostalgia.

Earlier this week on Instagram, Witherspoon posted an announcement video on her page and the Reese’s Book Club account. In the vid where she’s joined by her pup, Minnie Peal, the proud mother of three shares her February book club pick. “I’m so excited to reveal it to you,” she says to her followers. “But first, I want to tell you a little bit about it.”

Witherpoon proceeds to hold up a copy of Redwood Court by DéLana R. A. Dameron. Originally published on February 6, 2024, Dameron’s debut novel centers around a young woman named Mika Tabor, who is the youngest member of her family. While growing up in Redwood Court, a Black working-class suburban town in South Carolina in the 1990s, Mika learns about her riveting family history, from her parents working multiple jobs to her grandparents moving to the small town at the height of Jim Crow.

In the video, the Legally Blonde alum goes on to share how much she loved the book. “It’s all about home and a sense of belonging. I can’t wait for you to read it,” the actress explains.

Witherspoon goes on to explain why Redwood Court is such a nostalgic read, writing in the caption, “This book is filled with a sense of nostalgia as Mika takes us down memory lane, sharing stories of her Southern Black family through a collection of vivid vignettes.”

Sounds like the perfect book for us to start in celebration of Black History Month
