Princess Charlotte Has Already Added a Personal Touch to Her School Backpack

Think wayyyy back (sorry) to those first days of school. Remember picking out your backpack, folders and lunchbox? Or planning your first day outfit weeks in advance?

Clearly (and to employ the often overused but totally appropriate phrase), the royals are just like us, because Princess Charlotte has already personalized her Thomas's Battersea Day School backpack.

Prince Charlotte, 4, and Prince George, 6, started school today at the swanky and $23,000-per-year Thomas's Battersea Day School, and were accompanied by mom and dad for the big drop-off (with Kate debuting a brand-new haircut and donning a royal re-wear dress that paid tribute to Meghan and Harry...aww!).

Charlotte—or should we say, "Lottie Cambridge"—starts big-kid school today for the first time (she previously attended nursery school) with her big brother George showing her the ropes (it's his third year), and she added a special touch to her standard-issue Thomas's Day School backpack.

In photos from their arrival, Charlotte, at first shy and hiding behind her mum's skirt, showed off her signature wave to photographers as she clutched Kate's hand. Her backpack is the same uniform navy and red one that George has, too. But upon closer inspection, a sequin pink unicorn keychain can be seen hanging off one of the zippers.

This isn't the first time Princess Charlotte has sported a unicorn accessory. Back in July, at William and Harry's charity polo match, Charlotte carried a sequin unicorn wristlet by Ty.

The keychain (similar here) dangled off the bag in full view of photographers as Charlotte shook hands with Helen Haslem, head of the lower school.

Prince William was overheard saying Charlotte was "very excited" for her first day, while the duchess tried to calm her usually outgoing daughter's nerves as she hid behind her skirt: Prince George “will help show you the way,” Kate was overheard telling her, according to The Telegraph.

Her signature wave and now a signature accessory: unicorns. We're loving Lottie's style already.
