I’ve seen several celebrities forge unlikely friendships, but not many can say that their relationship has inspired successful business ventures. Yes, I’m talking about the iconic duo, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, who instantly hit it off after the latter appeared on Stewart’s talk show in 2008. Since then, the pair have launched a cooking show, co-written cookbooks, co-hosted events and collaborated on several commercials. It comes as no surprise that these two are teaming up for another exciting project—and this time, it involves a cannabis-themed dinner party in West Hollywood, California.

I got to sit down with Stewart and chat about their lasting friendship and the special dinner they've curated with BIC EZ Reach Lighter and SWED. The media mogul also dished on her 101st book, her best tips for spring entertaining and the one chic clothing item she owns in every color.

This interview has been edited for clarity and length.

PureWow: It's been fun to see your friendship with Snoop Dogg evolve over the years. How would you describe that dynamic?

Martha Stewart: We're friends that actually attract attention [because] it's an odd pairing. We've been working together for...gosh, probably six or seven years? I haven't added it up. It goes so fast. But we've done TV together. We've done the NBC Olympics together. That was fabulous, doing the Olympics. I was there only for a couple days, doing the equestrian events with Snoop, and they really set the tone of the Olympics, I think. And he's so popular, it's so much fun to sort of ride the wave on his coattails. And he had very nice coattails on the equestrian events. But now, we're planning another event for the upcoming Olympics and we continue to work with Bic and a few other companies.

PW: What's the most interesting thing Snoop has taught you?

MS: I've learned a lot about a world that would probably be very foreign to me. Otherwise, I like rap and I like the enthusiasm and the heart and the hard work that goes into constantly creating, making up poetry that turns into music. It's fascinating.

PW: I see that you two are currently teaming up for a cannabis-inspired dinner with BIC EZ Reach Lighter x SWED. How did this come about?

MS: Snoop and I have been collaborating for three years now on the development of ideas centered around their EZ Reach lighters. Both Snoop and I have designed many of the lighters. And we've had a lot of fun, and we've done various commercials for Bic. Now, Bic has asked us to inspire a special dinner that's being held on April 17 in West Hollywood for 15 or 20 people, and it'll be a Snoop and Martha-inspired dinner to celebrate cannabis, tinctures of THC and food related to a sit-down dinner party.

PW: When it comes to spring entertaining, what are your must-haves?

MS: Asparagus! Asparagus and artichokes are must-haves for spring entertaining, they're like a standby for me, and I'm planning my Easter lunch right now, they're important to the Easter lunch.

PW: What's your favorite way to prepare asparagus?

MS: Well, I like big fat asparagus. I don't like the little skinny ones. And and I cut them all the same length, and then I take off about half halfway down, we lightly peel just for not only tenderness, but also for beauty, the skin, and then we poach them in boiling water, lying down flat in a great big skillet and salted water, heavily salted water, until they're more tender, and that's it. You don't have to do anything else to have a delicious, tender asparagus.

PW: Do you have a favorite spring fashion trend, or a favorite spring outfit?

MS: I have a new sweater that I have in every color now. I love it so much, it's an angora sweater. I've been wearing it in pictures. You can probably see it in some of my pictures. I love this angora sweater because you can wear it over a silk blouse, you can wear it over a t-shirt, you can wear it over your workout clothes, and it's soft and it's fluffy. And I just got a white one, which is so beautiful. The yellow one is especially beautiful, too.

PW: As we're on the topic of spring, I have to mention your 101st book, which is the gardening handbook, and it's already a New York Times best seller. What can you tell me about it?

MS: It's a very useful book. I gave it to a friend of mine, my friend Dominique Bluhdorn. She ordered it when she came home from a trip, she started reading it and she has not put it down. She said it's the best garden book she ever read. Isn't that nice? Whenever a friend says that, I'm so happy.

PW: What other exciting projects are in the pipeline?

MS: Coming this fall, a skin care line, which will be fantastic and for all ages. It's very good skincare.
