‘The Princess Bride’ Is Heading to Broadway

If you’re looking to add to your Playbill collection, then you’re in luck, because The Princess Bride is getting the Broadway treatment.

According to Deadline, Disney Theatricals is developing a musical version of the 1987 film. The company enlisted composer David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit) and authors Bob Martin (The Prom) and Rick Elice (The Cher Show) to create a stage production based on the classic movie.

If you’re thinking, this sounds oddly familiar, you’re not alone. The film was supposed to be turned into a musical back in 2007, but negotiations were never finalized. Inconceivable!

The Princess Bride focuses on a grandfather who reads his sick grandson a forbidden love story. The movie originally hit theaters in 1987 and starred Fred Savage (the Grandson), Peter Falk (the Grandfather), Robin Wright (the Princess Bride), Cary Elwes (Westley), Mandy Patinkin (Inigo), Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck) and Anne Dyson (The Queen).

It was directed by Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally) and written by William Goldman (The General’s Daughter).

Although we don’t know any further details about the musical version, we’re suckers for any screen-to-stage adaptation.
