These days, when Prince William, 41, attends a sporting match, he often brings along his eldest child, Prince George, 10. The latest instance was this Saturday, Oct. 14, when the two were seen together at the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter final in France, where Wales faced off against Argentina.

One sweet moment was posted to the Instagram account Prince William shares with his wife, Kate Middleton, 41. In this shot, William is seen chatting with a Welsh rugby player while wrapping his arm around his son's shoulders.

Throughout the rest of the event, the father and son were seen cheering together in the stands while sitting next to Gerald Davies, the President of the Welsh Rugby Union, and Sir Bill Beaumont CBE, Chairperson of World Rugby.

Despite the royal pair's enthusiastic energy, the Welsh rugby team ended up losing to Argentina, 17 to 29.

In the wake of the loss, the Prince of Wales shared a rare personal message to social media, offering his condolences to the Welsh squad.

“Commiserations @WelshRugbyUnion, sorry that it wasn’t to be this year but you can be very proud of all you have achieved and I know you’ll come back even stronger,” the prince wrote. “Congratulations @LosPumas – best of luck.” The royal also rewrote his message in Welsh and then signed the post, “W.”

While Prince William may have the title of “Prince of Wales,” he also became patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in 2016, a role which he took over from his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The last time the prince expressed his support for the Welsh rugby team on social media was Sept. 24, when the team beat the Wallabies to move on to the quarter finals.
