Fans Can’t Get Over Prince Harry’s American Accent in Jelly Roll Video

"Dude" was a dead giveaway

Fans have been wondering why Prince Harry was previously seen in a tattoo parlor during his trip to New York. And last month, he gave us the answer when he released a priceless video starring Jelly Roll.

I was so distracted by the spot-on sketch, that I nearly missed the royal’s Americanized accent. Thankfully, fans filled the comments section with messages about his linguistic changes. And once I rewatched the clip, I must admit, it was blatantly obvious.

“He totally has an American accent now,” one person wrote (as Hello! magazine points out). Another person added, “It sounds like Prince Harry is losing his British accent.”

The Duke of Sussex used several American phrases, including “screw it” and “dude.” When Prince Harry joked about putting the tattoo on his “a**,” he used the American pronunciation instead of the British version (which includes an “r” before the “s”).

Communication coach and accent specialist Anthony Shuster confirmed that Prince Harry’s accent has been slowly changing over time. “You notice that there’s a huge difference between the way the King speaks and the way Harry now speaks,” he told the Telegraph. “There’s very little articulation at all in his speech—it’s far more relaxed.”

Shuster continued, “In 2019, after meeting Meghan, there was already a noticeable shift.”

If you need me, I’ll be analyzing every video of Prince Harry I can find.
