This ‘Bridgerton’ Actress Accidentally Stabbed Her Co-Star with a Parasol

As we watch Netflix’s Bridgerton (for the millionth time), we’re constantly in awe of the timeless gracefulness portrayed by each character. However, this behind-the-scenes secret proves that not everyone was born to court.

Nicola Coughlan (who plays Penelope Featherington) appeared on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she discussed an incident that occurred while filming the popular series. The 34-year-old actress explained that she was given a parasol as a prop on her first day on set, and she accidentally “stabbed” her co-star, Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), during one of the takes.

When asked about the instance, Coughlan said, “Unfortunately, that is true. So, it was my first day on set, and it’s quite terrifying getting a big Shondaland Netflix job, you think, ‘I just don’t want to screw this up.’ So, they said to me, ‘You’re very tiny, let’s put you in heels.’”

Although she agreed with the height adjustment, Coughlan found herself struggling to stand upright without falling over. She continued, “It became evident pretty quickly that with the corset and the heels my balance was not so amazing.”

Coughlan admitted that she fell not once, not twice, but three times during that first day on the Bridgerton set. Unfortunately, Jessie was in the wrong place at the wrong time for Coughlan’s third tumble.

“And the third time I was holding a parasol, which in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon,” she said. “And I fell forward and stabbed Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, in the hand, and she just started bleeding. But she’s still my friend!”

And we thought rain boots and an umbrella were hard enough to manage…
