Meghan Markle just paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing a meaningful accessory.

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, traveled to Nigeria with her husband, Prince Harry, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. During a visit to the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Markle honored the late royal by wearing a piece of jewelry that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The piece in question is a gold necklace that features a diamond cross. According to People magazine, Prince Harry recently gifted the accessory to Markle. The duchess was wearing a white strapless dress, and she styled her hair in a messy updo that drew attention to the piece of jewelry.

The couple’s trip to Nigeria was announced last month, when Brigadier General Tukur Gusau—a spokesperson for Nigeria's military—released an official statement confirming that the royal couple would meet with service members and participate in several cultural activities.

The trip marked their first international tour in years, and it didn’t disappoint. During a visit to the Lightway Academy, Markle and Prince Harry visited a classroom inside the school, where kindergarteners danced and sang songs for them. This prompted the duchess to share rare details about her 2-year-old daughter, Lilibet (or “Lili”).

It all started when Prince Harry asked the group of students, “Is singing and dancing your favorite class?” Markle then revealed a tidbit about Princess Lilibet, saying, “That’s Lili’s favorite class. Maybe it’s all the jumping around.”

Princess Diana would be so proud.
