Probably a smart move

King Charles isn’t afraid to admit when he’s too old to do something—like surfing.

This week, the 75-year-old monarch stepped out for a historic visit to Australia and Samoa with his wife, Queen Camilla. While in Sydney, they stopped by St Thomas’s Anglican Church and were greeted by a sea of well-wishers

According to Hello! magazine, one fan asked the monarch if he plans on surfing during his time in Australia. The king reportedly turned down the idea, responding, “If I was a younger man.”

The well-wisher may or may not have known that King Charles’s son, Prince Harry, recently accepted such an offer to show off his surfing skills. Days ago, the Duke of Sussex visited Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch in California, which has a man-made wave pool that’s designed for surfing.

Much to my delight, professional surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer documented the entire experience on his Instagram page. Van Bastolaer shared a photo on his Instagram Story, featuring Prince Harry surfing the barrel of a wave, along with a video of the royal’s ride.

The video made me do a double take because, well, I had no idea Prince Harry could surf. The caption read, “In Tahiti, we still call you Prince Harry but at surfranch, it’s my Brother. It was an honor to have you surf with me & @kellyslater @michaelanders_ at @kswaveco.”

Even though Charles said no to surfing, he has been quite busy on his royal tour. He and Queen Camilla arrived in Samoa today (TBD if she continues her streak of wearing all white).

There’s always next time, King Charles.
