Three cheers to His Majesty the King—but also Kate Middleton, who surprised the world with a return to royal duty today following her cancer diagnosis, which she announced earlier this year in March.
King Charles and Kate Middleton Just Stood Together Strong and Beaming on the Royal Balcony
We could not be happier to see them
Just yesterday, the Princess of Wales posted to Instagram that she would participate in Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration to mark the monarch’s official birthday. Still, when she stepped out onto the royal balcony at Buckingham Palace next to King Charles at the close of today’s proceedings, it was a royal sight to see, especially with the pair positioned side-by-side.
Here’s why: Both Kate and the king have been battling separate forms of cancer this year. Reports have revealed their increasing closeness as a result with the king offering his continual support to Kate as they each navigate similar but unique health care journeys.
Also on the balcony beside them? From left to right, there was Prince George, Prince William, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte. Next, you could see Kate and King Charles, then Queen Camilla, Duchess Sophie, Prince Edward, Lady Louise and Princess Anne. (The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Timothy Laurence and the Duke of Kent also appeared.) The weather cleared just in the time for the colorful flypast carried out by the Red Arrows Aerobatic team. As a whole, the family looked comfortable and relaxed, but also happy to be together as they joyfully waved to royal fans.
When’s the next royal balcony appearance? It won’t be for quite some time. That’s what makes an occasion such as this all the more special. In the meantime, we’ll be toasting to the good health of Kate and the king, who both deserved this moment together after the year they’ve had.
