Kate Middleton's Body Language at Today's Somber Outing Spoke Volumes

It's been a minute since we've seen the princess

Whether you're a celebrity or not, your body language doesn't lie. But if you are a celebrity, there are cameras capturing your every move, meaning your body language is even more likely to give away your true feelings. Take, for example, Taylor Swift whose recent shift in body language spoke volumes about her relationship with Travis Kelce. Or Heidi Klum, whose behavior alongside husband Tom Kaulitz has been incredibly revealing. And the same goes for the royals.

From King Charles's unprecedented body language at a reception to Prince William's surprising behavior in South Africa, it's easy to see how the royal family is feeling on a given day by observing their physicality.

And now, Kate Middleton has returned to the spotlight after a month away—and her body language is doing a lot of talking.

Today, the 42-year-old princess made an appearance at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall. Though the event is a somber one—it honors those who lost their lives in military service along with their loved ones—the Festival itself is a concert featuring performances and readings.

Middleton was joined by her husband, Prince William, as well as King Charles, Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh and Princess Anne. Sadly, Queen Camilla was not in attendance due to her health.

One thing is clear from the Princess of Wales's face at the event: Even under pressure, she's a pro. Princess Catherine could be seen chatting at Royal Albert Hall and she was clearly very engaged, as evidenced by her raised eyebrows and interested facial expression. She was also leaning slightly forward, indicating that she was fully present in the conversation.

The only giveaway that perhaps the princess was (understandably) a little nervous to be back in the limelight? Her body language was closed off, with her hands and purse in front of her. So while she may be a consummate pro when it comes to engaging with others, it was clear that she is still protective of herself. Given that it's been a hot minute since her last outing, it would make sense that she'd be slightly closed off as cameras snapped away.

That said, Princess Catherine seemed at ease and right at home when she was alongside her husband and the rest of the royal family. Throughout the festival she appeared much more comfortable and even flashed several smiles.

Though it feels like forever since we've seen Princess Catherine in public, it actually hasn't been terribly long. In early October, she made a surprise appearance at Windsor Castle for a special get-together with 16-year-old Liz Hatton, a budding photographer who is battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Then days later, Catherine joined her husband for an official royal visit to Southport, the English town where three children were tragically killed in a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class over the summer.

And this isn't the last we'll be seeing of the princess this weekend. She is set to appear at The Cenotaph war memorial in London tomorrow to honor fallen troops for Remembrance Sunday.

Princess Catherine, it's good to have you back.
