In a bizarre twist of events, Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei just found out they’re related.
The news broke on a recent episode of Finding Your Roots, a PBS genealogy show. When host Henry Louis Gates told Tomei that they share “an identical stretch of DNA,” the actress, 54, could hardly contain her excitement.
Much to our delight, Tomei shared a video of her reaction on Instagram, writing, “What an incredible gift to find out about my family’s roots with @HenryLouisGates! Eternally grateful for this generation and generations to come… and the big surprise—discovering my friend is my REAL cousin! Hey cuz @juliannemoore!!!!”
The clip features Tomei learning about her long-lost cousin, saying, “Julianne? Julie? You know we went to school together? Jules! Oh, I can’t wait to tell her!”
Moore and Tomei are longtime friends. Not only did they both attend Boston University in the early ’80s, but they also starred in Crazy, Stupid, Love together in 2011.
When Moore caught wind of the news, she also expressed her excitement on Instagram, writing, “I KNEW WE WERE ALIKE! @marisatomei is my COUSIN!! OMG I’m so excited, thank you @henrylouisgates for letting us know we have identical segments of DNA.”
The more you know.
