Totally understandable, Michelle

If you’ve been wondering why Michelle Williams wasn’t by her former Destiny's Child bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland’s side at a recent rally for Kamala Harris, you’re definitely not alone. But fear not—Michelle herself has the scoop on why she couldn’t make it.

During the October 29 episode of Sherri, Williams opened up about missing the October 25 rally in Houston, Texas. Turns out, her Broadway commitments—specifically her starring role in Death Becomes Her—kept her from joining the event, and she expressed a mix of emotions about it.

“I was so happy, but at the same time, it was the first time that I have not been able to be in person for something that I, you know, wanted to be at,” she shared candidly. “And that is a sacrifice we make with Broadway.”

Even though she couldn’t be there physically, Williams made sure to give a shoutout to Beyoncé and Rowland for holding down the fort.

“I could not be there, but they represented and held me down in their own way,” she said.

Host Sherri Shepherd noted that fans often can't think of Destiny's Child without also thinking of Williams, something the singer understands, but pointed out the practical challenges that often prevent the trio from being together.

“They live in L.A., I'm in Atlanta, and they’ll see them… paparazzi will get them at dinner. We ain't together all the time,” she said with a laugh, adding that while they may not be seen together constantly, they "are together more than people think."

“But there are times I'm not able to be [there]. #IvegotthingsthatpreventmefrombeingplacesyallthinkIshouldbeat,” she concluded.

Beyoncé was spotted at the rally alongside her mother, Tina Knowles, Rowland and country music legend Willie Nelson, who performed. After his set, the “Halo” singer took to the stage to introduce Harris.

“We are so happy to be standing here on this stage as proud, country, Texas women, supporting and celebrating the one and only Vice President Kamala Harris,” Beyoncé declared.

While Michelle may have missed this rally, it’s clear she’s cheering on her friends from afar.
