Consider me influenced

There's something about the first signs of spring, when the weather finally starts to warm up, that really makes me feel alive. The change in seasons means it's time to swap out my usual black NYC wardrobe for something a bit more vibrant—think bright colors and florals everywhere. And the same goes for my nails. Bye-bye to the deep reds and dark hues of winter and hello to soft pastels and fun, fresh shades. This year, though, there’s one particular trend that’s been all over the place and it’s taking over my Pinterest feed: soap nails.

Celebrities like Meghan Markle and Jennifer Lopez have already been spotted rocking this clean, minimalist nail look and it looks like Selena Gomez is hopping on the trend too. Her longtime manicurist, Tom Bachik, recently shared a snap on social media showcasing her latest mani and, surprise surprise, it’s the perfect example of spring’s hottest nail trend for 2025. The post shows Gomez looking cozy in a fur jacket, her hand wrapped around her phone and her neutral, glossy nails taking center stage.

Bachik captioned the post with a casual “Selfie Sunday,” but it’s the nails that really have me intrigued. So, what exactly are soap nails? Think of it like the "no-makeup makeup" look but for your nails. According to nail artist Erica De Los Santos, who spoke to Purewow, soap nails get their name from the fresh, clean look you get after washing your hands with soap and water. The vibe is subtle and natural—your nails are a soft, glossy pink, not overdone with bold colors or complicated designs. It’s all about enhancing the natural beauty of your nails instead of masking them.

This isn’t the first time Selena has gone for a more understated nail look. Back in January, for the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, she sported a classic pink and white French manicure, adding a touch of Old Hollywood glamour to her red carpet look.

Meghan Markle has also been spotted with soap nails, both on her Netflix show With Love, Meghan and in real life. She even shared a tutorial with her fans on how to recreate the look at home, using just one coat of CND Shellac in “Satin Slippers” and “Romantique.” With steps that simple, I’m definitely going to give this trend a try myself.

A clean, glossy mani that’s easy to achieve? Yes, please.
