Delicious cookies, glittering sequins and the best movies—December really is one of the most cheerful months of the year (even if the weather doesn’t agree). Another thing this month has going for it? December babies are totally awesome—here are eight reasons why.
8 Fun Facts About December Babies
They Are Less Irritable
It turns out that winter babies are much more likely to have a sunny disposition. That’s according to researchers from Hungary who studied 400 people and matched their personality type to the time of year they were born. They found that people born during winter have fewer mood swings and temper tantrums. (No guarantees that your toddler won’t freak out if you take his toy away, though.)
Their Birth Flower Is Holly
Those born in December are known for putting their families first (aww), and these quintessential winter berries are a symbol of domestic happiness.
They’re More Likely To Be Sporty
You may want to sign your kiddo up for after-school practice. According to a study published in the International Journal of Sports Medicine, children born in December are more physically fit and athletic than those born in nine other months (those born in October and November came out on top). The reason why is unclear, but scientists think it has something to do with moms-to-be getting more sunshine and vitamin D while pregnant, which translates into stronger bones and muscles for their babies.
But They May Be More Prone To Food Allergies
While a lot of kids have some sort of food allergy these days, a report in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology looked at children brought into Boston emergency rooms with food-related allergic reactions and found that more of them were born in winter than summer or spring. Again, the reason why probably has something to do with vitamin D exposure.
Their Birthstones Are Brilliantly Blue
December babies have their choice of three bright shades to fight the winter blues—tanzanite, zircon and turquoise.
They Are Either A Sagittarius Or Capricorn
Sagittariuses (born between November 22 and December 21) are said to be avid travelers with an optimistic and enthusiastic outlook. Meanwhile, Capricorns (born between December 22 and January 19) are known for being determined, ambitious and kind.
They Feel Like Their Birthdays Are Often Forgotten
Because they share their birthday month with a lot of holidays, one report found that nearly one third of people born in December say that their special day frequently gets overlooked while 27 percent claim their gifts are wrapped in Christmas paper. Oops. But actually, December 24 and December 25 are the rarest of all birthdays, so hey, these guys are pretty special.
But They Also Share Their Birthdays With Some Pretty Awesome People
Including Lucy Liu, Brad Pitt, Judi Dench, Taylor Swift and Jamie Foxx. That’s what we call a party.
