This New Christian Bale Mystery Film Is the #1 Movie on Netflix, Claiming the Spot from ‘Glass Onion’

Move over, Benoit Blanc, because there's another mystery film that's dominating on Netflix. While the sequel to Knives OutGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery—has been holding on to the number-one spot on Netflix's list of most-watched movies, there's a new release that has managed to dethrone the all-star whodunit.

The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) and Harry Melling (the Harry Potter film series), was uploaded to the site this past Friday, and in only 48 hours, it has managed to rise to the top.

Based on Louis Bayard's 2003 novel of the same name, The Pale Blue Eye is a bit darker than Glass Onion, and it takes place in the 1800s, where a retired veteran (Bale) is asked to investigate a murder that took place at the United States Military Academy.

As he undergoes this mission, the veteran enlists the help of an eager young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe (but, keep in mind that this film is fictional and is not actually based on the life of Poe, besides the fact that he went to the academy).

From there, the two try to put together the pieces as mysterious murders continue to happen, but they may be unprepared for the answers they get in the end. *Dun dun duuun!*

Alongside Bale and Melling, The Pale Blue Eye also stars Gillian Anderson (Sex Education), Simon McBurney (The Golden Compass), Timothy Spall (The King's Speech), Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) and more.

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) wrote, directed and produced the film. In addition to starring in the movie, Bale also acted as a producer.
