This Sci-Fi Flick Just Dethroned ‘Don’t Look Up’ to Become Netflix’s #1 Movie

The Colony just dethroned Don’t Look Up as Netflix’s top-rated movie.

The German sci-fi film premiered on Netflix last year, but it didn’t gain popularity until recently. In fact, it’s now ranked number one on the streaming service’s list of most-watched flicks.

The news is a pretty big deal, especially since Don’t Look Up has held the number one spot for two weeks straight. The Colony is now rated ahead of Just Go with It, The Longest Yard, The Town and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The plot is pretty much a cross between Midnight Sky and The Handmaid’s Tale, as it’s set in the far distant future. The story revolves around a colony in space, where the colonists are desperate to find answers after they become infertile. When they send an astronaut back to earth, she’s tasked with determining whether procreation has become a universal problem. It doesn’t take long for her to cross paths with a young boy, who could change everything.

Cast members include Nora Arnezeder (Blake), Iain Glen (Gibson), Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Narvik), Sope Dirisu (Tucker), Sebastian Roche (Blake’s Father) and Joel Basman (Paling).

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “A colony in space sends an astronaut back to Earth to decide the fate of the planet’s remaining inhabitants after the colonists become infertile.”

Will The Colony remain in the number one spot for as long as Don’t Look Up? Only time will tell.
