Sandra Oh’s Brand-New Dark Comedy Is Now the #2 Show on Netflix

Step aside, Killing Eve, because Sandra Oh has returned to the small screen in an all-new role.

The actress’s dark comedy, The Chair, recently premiered on Netflix. After a matter of days, the series has already claimed the number two spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched shows.

The Chair is pretty much a cross between Killing Eve and How to Get Away with Murder…minus the murder. The story follows Dr. Ji-yoon Kim (Oh), who is facing a career defining moment. It all starts when she’s named Chair (get it?) of Pembroke University’s prestigious English Department.

Not only is she joining after a series of scandals, but she’s also the first woman to hold this position. Oh, and she’s one of few people of color within the department, which only adds to the scrutiny.

“I feel like someone handed me a ticking time bomb because they want a woman to be holding it when it explodes,” she says in the trailer.

The Chair also stars Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban, Nana Mensah, David Morse and Everly Carganilla. In addition to her starring role, Oh is also serving as an executive producer alongside Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Amanda Peet (Dirty John) is also aiding as a writer, showrunner and executive producer.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “At a major university, the first woman of color to become chair tries to meet the dizzying demands and high expectations of a failing English department.”

All we have to say is…welcome back, Sandra Oh. (As if you left.)
