The Newest 'Severance' Episode Is So Freaking Good I Take Back (Nearly) Everything I Said About the Season 2 Premiere

I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong...and I was *partly* wrong

It's only been a week since the Severance season two premiere dropped on AppleTV+—and I shared my brutally honest review. TL;DR: I thought it was great, and I had plenty of theories afterward, but I generally found it frustrating and, at times, infuriating. Fast forward to Severance season two episode two, and I'm singing a different tune (at least regarding the frustrating and infuriating part).

You guys, the newest episode is incredible. In fact, it's probably my favorite Severance episode ever aside from that wild season one finale (ya know, where the innies briefly become outies). There is plenty of action, there are plenty of answers and there are plenty more questions (but in a fun, non-frustrating way).

In my episode one review, I wrote, "After that unbelievable, action-packed season one finale, and a long break between seasons, I am ready for some answers. Hence my frustration that I'm clearly going to have to wait on those." As a reminder, episode one took place entirely within the walls of Lumon, leaving us all hanging about what happened at the end of the aforementioned finale.

I continued, "The first ten or so minutes of the episode are hard to watch...we're about to get stonewalled by Lumon (and the Severance writers) when it comes to getting the answers we've been looking for." Obviously, I went on to praise the episode for at least bringing the gang back together and staying (smartly) mysterious. I even agreed with the season's Rotten Tomatoes rating which stood at 95 percent fresh—but now has risen to a whopping 98 percent.

And the updated rating reflects just how good the latest episode really is. I admit it—I was wrong about the frustrating elements of the show. It was worth the wait, because now we have lots of answers.

The latest iteration takes place entirely outside the walls of Lumon, revealing exactly what happened in the aftermath of the finale. And in a surprise twist, the characters are smarter than we think. I assumed Mark and his sister Devon would attribute his "She's alive!" comment to the situation with the missing baby. But no! Devon secretly (and then not-so-secretly) suspects it was innie Mark's reference to his (maybe) late wife, Gemma. Such a gratifying turn of events!

Plus, we get answers to why Mark suddenly had a new team in episode one, where the rest of his OG team was in the meantime, what happened to Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette) and if we would ever seen Burt (Christopher Walken) again after he retired from Lumon. Even more gratification!

Does the flood of action and answers in this week's installment indicate that perhaps I was a bit impatient watching the season premiere? Fiiiiiiine. I'm just so glad that the Severance ball is rolling so quickly once again and that there is plenty more mystery to unravel in the coming weeks.
