The Brand-New ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ Is the Daytime TV Show We’ve Been Dreaming of

This just in: Live with Kelly and Ryan will star Ryan Seacrest no more...and Kelly Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos, will be taking over the American Idol host's spot.

While we're obviously sad to see Seacrest go, we're also thrilled to see Ripa and her hubby uniting on screen once again (and at least we'll still get our dose of Ryan every New Year's Eve).

Dating back to when they met on the set of All My Children in 1995, Ripa and Consuelos's relationship can be attributed to the powers of daytime television, so it seems like a fitting, full-circle moment for them to be hosting Live together after all these years.

The news of the bittersweet switcheroo was announced on Live early this morning, Feb. 16, when Seacrest said, “Last year, we spoke and I made the decision to make this my last season as co-host with Kel here on Live with Kelly and Ryan.” According to Seacrest, he is planning to leave at some point this spring, as he prepares to move to Los Angeles.

The co-host also made an Instagram post, where he wrote, “I’m going to miss my work wife and all the laughter we share. When I signed on to host Live in 2017 it was meant to be for 3 years, but I loved the job and working with Kelly so much that I extended my time and last year I made the decision to stay on for one more final season.”

Now, 6 years later, Seacrest has finally decided to step down, and we know that Ripa is really going to miss him too. On the show, the Live Wire author said, “You are a gem. You are one of my best friends and...the greatest part of this entire experience has been that you've gone from being a friend to a family member.”

But, if there's one thing we know, Consuelos will fill the spot well.

Over the years, Ripa and Consuelos have shared the screen on multiple occasions. Not only did they first connect while playing lovers in All My Children, but Consuelos portrayed Ripa's love interest once again, when he guest-starred on her sitcom, Hope & Faith. Then, years later, Ripa made a cameo on Riverdale, where she played her husband's fictional mistress.

Besides these collabs, Consuelos has been no stranger to the Live stage. Over the years, the Spanish-born star has frequently filled in as a guest host, proving his talent in a talk show setting and bringing the charm that has made him such a soap opera mainstay.

Not to mention, we know that this couple has major chemistry (I mean, they're married for goodness' sake). One only needs to log on to Instagram to see their flirtation, as well as the witty jabs they throw at one another. Sure, we can likely expect some romance on set, but rest assured: It won't be a schmaltz-fest. (Remember when Mark kept commenting heart emojis on his wife's posts, and she comically responded, “Babe, you have to come up with something new...”?)

And for any frequent Live watchers like us, don't fret, because the traditions we're used to on the show are likely not to change (from coordinated outfits to costume-filled Halloween specials). Plus, this isn't the last we've seen of Seacrest.

On Instagram, the co-host assured viewers: “I’m looking forward to coming back to guest host in the future and Kelly, I promise to forever share my food photos, chicken eggs, and olive oil with you. And congratulations to my brother Mark, feel free to remodel my dressing room!”

So, we'll be soaking up these last few months we've got with Ryan, but we'll be excitedly waiting for this power couple to lead Live side-by-side. We're sure there will be lots of surprises along the way.
