Kaley Cuoco, 37, is getting ready to return to her comedy roots (any OG Big Bang Theory fans here?) in the upcoming Peacock comedy-thriller series, Based on a True Story. The show is set to hit the streaming service in June (and you’ll be able to stream the entire first season on Peacock with subscriptions starting at $4.99 a month).

The Flight Attendant star will play the lead role and though we don’t have much info on Cuoco’s character, we do know she is portraying a woman (who is also pregnant) named Ava Bartlett.

Per the streaming service, Based on a True Story follows three people residing in Los Angeles whose lives become intertwined after experiencing a series of unfortunate events. There will be a whodunit murder mystery, high-stakes investigations and…toilets? According to Peacock, the eight-episode series will include “true crime, murder, and the slow-close toilet seat.” (Yes, really.)

Craig Rosenberg, who is the showrunner for the new series, shared in a statement: “Over the last decade, a true crime phenomenon has swept over America. Podcasts, documentaries, fictional shows based on true stories—they dominate the culture.”

He continued: “Murderers have become celebrities and celebrities have become murderers which inspired me to create this show. I became fascinated with the idea of a relatable married couple whose youthful dreams hadn't come to fruition and who saw the true crime tidal wave as an opportunity to change their lives and save their marriage.”

Executive produced by Ozark star Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and Craig Rosenberg, the upcoming Peacock series aims to do a deep dive into America’s “obsession with true crime.” And just by reading the synopsis, we can already tell that this is a show Only Murders in the Building fans will enjoy watching.

Aside from Cuoco, the talented ensemble cast for Based on a True Story will include names like Chris Messina (The Mindy Project), Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Tom Bateman (Behind Her Eyes), Priscilla Quintana (Good Trouble) and Liana Liberato (If I Stay).

Be sure to mark your calendars because Based on a True Story is coming to Peacock on June 8, 2023.
