It’s been seven years since Gerard Butler starred in Den of Thieves and simultaneously proved his worth as an action star. And now, the 55-year-old actor has returned for the highly anticipated sequel, which is climbing Netflix’s charts at a rapid pace.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera just hit Netflix on March 20, and within a matter of days, it’s already claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked ahead of The Twister: Caught in the Storm, Kraven: The Hunter, Despicable Me 4, Trap and The Electric State.)

In the movie, Butler reprises his role as detective Nick O'Brien, who heads to France in an attempt to stop a jewelry heist from happening. It all starts when the Panther mafia steals a red diamond from an airplane hangar in Belgium. When O'Brien learns that their next robbery will take place in France, he jumps into action.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera was directed by Christian Gudegast (London Has Fallen), who also co-wrote the script alongside Paul T. Scheuring (Prison Break). In addition to Butler, the film also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Cocaine Bear), Evin Ahmad (Who Is Erin Carter?), Salvatore Esposito (Gomorrah), Meadow Williams (The Bay), Swen Temmel (The Covenant), Rico Verhoeven (Black Lotus) and Jordan Bridges (Palm Royale).

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “A disgruntled detective (Gerard Butler) goes rogue and risks it all as he tracks down an elusive thief and his new crew: the infamous panther mafia.” The streaming service describes the film as “gritty” and “suspenseful,” so don’t forget to prepare the popcorn before tuning in.
