The trailer seems pretty normal at first, following a woman, Jill (Rodriguez), and her children as they endure their daily routine. But suddenly, everything changes.
“15 hours ago, something happened,” a voiceover says in the clip. “We don’t know what caused it or why it occurred. But what we do know is that none of us can sleep.”
The characters try to cope with the different stages of exhaustion as they begin to lose critical thinking abilities and experience hallucinations. They soon learn that the answer lies in the hands of Jill’s young daughter, who says through tears: “I can sleep!”
In addition to Rodriguez, Awake also stars Ariana Greenblatt, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Finn Jones, Shamier Anderson, Frances Fisher, Lucius Hoyos, Gil Bellows and Elias Edraki.
According to the official Netflix description, “After a global event wipes out humanity's ability to sleep, a troubled ex-soldier fights to save her family as society and her mind spiral into chaos.”
Awake will hit Netflix on Wednesday, June 9. In the meantime, we’ll be getting some much needed shut eye.
