The Best Orange Blush for Your Skin Tone

We know what you’re thinking: Orange blush—who the heck looks good in that?! Well, you could for starters. Trust us on this one. You just need to find a shade of orange that suits your skin tone (and comfort level), which is what we’re here to help with. (And don’t worry—we’ve rounded up the best orange blush options out there, but more on that in a minute.)

In general, those with lighter skin tones do well with a softer peach or apricot-hued blush, whereas those with medium to olive skin can go for a coral or even a sunset orange. And if you have dark to deep skin, you can either try a terra cotta to add a subtle warmth to your face or pop of tangerine on the apples of your cheeks for more of a statement look.

Which brings us to our next point: the application. The trick to pulling off orange blush is to apply it with a light hand. (We’re talking about a hummingbird hovering above a flower level of lightness here.) Whether you’re using a cream, liquid or powder formula, you want to put the smallest amount of product on your brush and apply it just above the apples of your cheeks and sweep the remaining color inward, and then upwards toward your temples to diffuse the edges. Once you’ve blended everything in, you can build up the color as desired.

Alright, let’s get you some orange blush now, shall we?

1. Nars Blush In “luster”

Best Overall

NARS is well-known for their blushes and this “sheer golden apricot” shade proves why the brand is so beloved. The pressed powder formula delivers the silkiest application and the slightest shimmer, while the color itself—though distinctly orange—somehow looks natural on your skin. Pure sorcery, we say.

2. Tower28 Beachplease Lip + Cheek Cream Blush In “golden Hour”

Best Orange Cream Blush

Described as a “sun-kissed orange,” this cream blush has a dreamy texture that melts into your skin with a few taps. On that note: The color comes on strong at first, but it becomes sheerer as you blend it in, at which point it will last until sundown (or golden hour, as the name suggests).

3. Pat Mcgrath Labs Skin Fetish: Divine Powder Blush In “paradise Venus”

Best Orange Powder Blush

Honestly, we let out an involuntary “ooh” the first time we swiped this blush on our cheeks. The pigmentation and color payoff is just that good. And even though we usually favor creams on our dry skin, this powder somehow feels satiny smooth and doesn’t cling to our pores or fine lines like some others do.

4. Glossier Cloud Paint In "dawn"

Best Orange Cheek Stain

Prone to sweating off your makeup? Try this pigmented cheek stain from Glossier. The gel-cream formula packs a ton of color with the tiniest dab and leaves your cheeks flushed and dewy, never flat or streaky.

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio In "peachy Love"

Most Versatile

If you're still worried about finding the right shade, try this trio of complementary hues. Swirl on one of the lighter shades to suit your skin in the winter and switch to the brighter orange or coral as your summer tan starts to come in. Better yet, combine the shades for a custom glow.

6. Fenty Beauty By Rihanna Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush In “fuego Flush”

Best Shimmery Orange Blush

At first (ahem) blush, this tangerine tinted cream appears to be the boldest of bunch, but you’d be surprised by how much it sheers down once you apply it. With a golden glitter finish, it can just as easily be used as a highlighter or layered over another shade to add a little pop.

7. Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick In "minette"

Best Clean Orange Blush

If ingredients are of concern to you, we’d recommend this creamy blush from renowned makeup artist Gucci Westman (who counts Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow as clients). Packed with organic jojoba seed oil, it glides and melts into skin upon application. All that’s left behind is a fresh and dewy veil of color—sans any silicones, parabens or synthetic fragrances.

8. Nyx Professional Makeup Sweet Cheeks Soft Cheek Tint Blush In "almost Famous"

Best Drugstore

Oops, they did it again. Leave it to NYX to nail orange blush—and still manage to keep the price at a palatable 10 bucks. Use the doe-foot applicator to dot on the creamy formula and blend it out with your fingertips for a smooth, satin finish. (Tip: You won't need much. Two to three small dots should more than suffice.)

9. Nudestix Nudies Matte Blush & Bronze In "picante"

Best Orange Stick Blush

If your makeup M.O. is more "one and done," you'll love this twist-up blush that comes with a blending brush on the other end of the stick. Simply swipe it over your cheeks (and your eyelids if you're going for that monochromatic glow) and gently buff the color into your skin for an airbrushed finish.

10. Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Blush In "004 Coral"

Best Luxury

This compact blush is so pretty you'll hesitate to use it at first. But once you do, it'll be hard to stop. The powdery formula blends into skin at the slightest touch and leaves behind the softest flush of color. In short, it's the sort of blush that's impossible to overdo.
