Not what I would have guessed

Tom Cruise might have pulled off one of the most epic stunts at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony, but guess what? He didn’t get paid a single dime for it.

Yup, that's right the Mission: Impossible star leaped from the top of the Stade de France straight into the stadium to grab the Olympic flag from gymnast Simone Biles and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for a whopping $0.00.

To recap, the jaw-dropping stunt passed the baton to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. After jumping from the Stade de France, Cruise hopped on his motorcycle and a pre-recorded segment showed him cruising through Paris, catching a cargo plane to L.A. and landing at the iconic Hollywood sign.

LA28 president Casey Wasserman spilled the tea about the fee during the CNBC x Boardroom: Game Plan panel in Santa Monica on September 10. Wasserman also revealed that Cruise was all about doing the stunts himself, even when the original plan had a stunt double in the mix.

“The best part of the story is we pitched on a Zoom and the original idea was a person in the stadium as a stunt double,” he said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re like, well, there’s no way we’re getting this. We’re going to get four hours of filming time. We’ll do the thing that the L.A. with the Hollywood sign, he’ll hand the thing off and he’s done. Maybe we’ll get the other stuff and the rest will be just a stunt double."

However, the Jack Reacher star shut down that option. Wasserman revealed, "About five minutes into the presentation [Tom Cruise] goes, ‘I’m in. But I’m only doing it if I get to do everything.'”

And Cruise didn’t just impress the crowd—he also had NBC anchor Hoda Kotb totally starstruck. At the opening ceremony, Kotb shared a candid snap of herself with Cruise on Instagram. The photo, taken in the pouring rain, shows Kotb in a plastic poncho standing next to Cruise, who’s rocking a black blazer and a big smile.

Kotb captioned the pic, “Do you know when you dream of meeting Tom Cruise…And then it finally happens.”
